Mincey holding out

No, but players negotiate a percentage of a deal to be guaranteed. When a deal is signed a team has to honor the terms of that deal. If the guaranteed money is 500k or 50 million. If a player hasn't received all of that money but the team feels he hasn't played up to expectations to warrant that, what options do they have? They can't withhold that guaranteed money. Sure they can cut him, but that guaranteed money is his.

Negotiate better. Play better. Bet on yourself with a 1 year deal. I'm not going to feel bad for a guy because a team wants him to honor a deal thats good for the team, just like every team has to honor that guaranteed money. If every time someone outperforms a contract they hold out and get more money it will set a horrible precedent for the team. One that Dez's agent will definitely be paying attention to when his guaranteed portion runs out.

Mincey only got 500k guaranteed for a reason and he has one decent season and now wants to holdout? Sorry but I don't feel sorry for him and completely understand why the team hasn't done anything with his deal.

You keep on bringing up guaranteed money when it's clearly not relevant here. I'm guessing this is your take on any NFL holdout.

He's a solid player but I wouldn't do anything with his contract. I think the Cowboys would be fine without him

Not too sure what I think the team should do. On one hand we have a lot of quality DEs, POTENTIALLY, and the FO can't just let more and more players hold out for more money.

On the other hand, we are trying to win a Superbowl this year. We have a lot of cap room this year and you can never have too many good d-lineman, especially late in the year.

Unlike Dez' holdout would have, this won't disrupt camp.

Do not even talk to him. Show up or see ya.

I'd really hate to lose his services, especially for the first four games, when Hardy and McClain will be out.

No, not a fan of them at all. Its not relevant here, but the original post thats what I was referring to. Owners have no means to get out of honoring guarantees, yet when a player doesn't have any left or feels underpaid it's acceptable to hold out and many people side with the player. You don't see players jumping at paycuts even without guaranteed money left, and I can't ever recall a player giving up guaranteed money, so why should a team jump to pay someone more because they outperformed a contract or they don't feel secure without guarantees? Particularly a player like Mincey who's on a FA deal. It's not like his hands were tied by a rookie wage scale. He and his agent agreed to it so honor the contract.

Now if the Cowboys and Mincey had mutual interest in a new deal I would have been ok with them working one out. If nothing could get done, show up and earn better leverage next season, be it here or somewhere else.

Dallas should hold out as long as possible to see what happens in camp. If no injuries and all goes well........call his bluff.

Apparently he is the 70th highest paid player at his position, giving him a little bump to the fourties won't kill the team. He adds nice versatility and you know Lovie will snap him up given half a chance. If he is only looking for a little something something this year I don't think that will set the Cowboys back.

Don't forget about Kenneth Boatright. I thought he flashed some skills late last year and could be a solid back-up this year.

What a pathetic clown. Let him hold out all he wants and cut him immediately after. There's no way a player of his lowsy status should act like this.

I'm with you here. He outplayed his contract and emerged as a real team leader last year. I'd give him a bump in pay and add a team option year to his deal for next year. Not huge money, but he's earned a raise in my book.

If the team values him enough, they'll throw him a small bone perhaps a 2nd year and 2-3 mil guaranteed.

If not, the team will let it play out and see if he blinks. I honestly don't blame Mincey. It's a year to year business and he's looking at reduced snaps and production this season, which will lead to very little interest once he's a FA next year.

I like Mincey, having said that we have a lot of new DE's this year. 6 sacks is a pretty good season for the guy, is there a team looking for DE help that has a solid RB we can look at? Maybe a strong backup RB that can help is with RB depth?

If it's really about the money, this won't last long. He has no leverage. This will start costing him money real quick and then he'll see the error in his plan. Meanwhile, the Cowboys don't need him that bad anymore. In the end, a veteran missing the first few days of TC is all that's going to happen.

If I'm Dallas I do nothing with his contract. I talk to his agent and stress to them that they need to get their client into camp. He had a good year which is great, but it was one year. Replicate again then maybe we can talk. But I think Mincey knows more than likely this his last year in Dallas.

Terrible time for him to do that. He has no leverage at all.

Hardy's suspension is shortened, and I'm guessing could become even shorter.

This just gives guys who are here even more reps.

We'll see how long he wants to hold out for. He's already going to be the 4th end on this team...
