Most of the people stand when they are at the games.

What about the people who are so fat they cant even fit into their seat comfortably? 2 can play that game.

If you pay for a ticket that is your space. You can do what you want. Sit, stand, or what ever.

I got asked to sit down when Emmitt Smith broke the rushing record while the other 79,000 stood and cheered.

Get real people. Your at a football game.

Plus when someone asks you to sit down you usually have the people in front of you standing as well. If the majority is standing than just stand your butt up.

I have no idea if it did. But I honestly believe it's 50/50. Every time I go to a Braves or Thrashers game it seems that there's somebody with a bug up their arse about something that is none of their business. The last thing I ever worry about in a sporting event is somebody standing in front of me. Usually it's either some obnoxious drunk or on the opposite end of the spectrum, somebody being uptight and ruining the fun for the rest of the fans.

I really believe that most fans have the attitude that because they paid X amount of dollars, they should get their way.

again, I am not making any of this up nor would I. Two other people that post on this board were with me for both of the incidents I have been talking about. When they get back from vacation I will point them to this thread so they can tell it too and hopefully clear up any doubts.

It sound plausible for someone who could see from 10 rows back comes all the way down just to pick you two guys out and take a chance on getting into a fight. It made no sense.

that being said, I'd believe a guy who is well respected on the board, goes to games, and actually presents a story over a guy that wasn't even there and is just conjecturing stuff at this point.

you can't see ****, you have to jump up and down

if you aren't there to get into the music, why are you there? you could just stay home, listen to the CD, and wait for the concert to be posted on youtube.

as a musician, my band feeds off the crowd. the more reaction we get from the crowd, the harder we play and get down. I can't imagine it being much fun if the crowd just stands/sits there.

You made a generalization about people wanting to sit being 85 and needing diapers. I made a generalization about people standing the entire game yelling being drunk and unwilling to respect anothers point of view unless it mirrors their own. My simple point, which you missed, is what gives you more right to be at this game than a person that would like to enjoy it on his seat the enitrety of the game?

And to point out, I have been responding to and about a couple people's posts. One wanted to strangle a person that asked them to sit and another said that if anyone came to him with that, he would headbutt him. I am sure it is in jest (maybe a little ) but doesn't sound too civil to me.

One side of the fence: Guys.. go ahead and stand but come one, respect another persons reason for being at the game. It can be handled with dignity.

So he is the moron for asking you to sit down. And you are the smart one because you 1) ignored him, 2) ignored the usher, 3) argued with security, and 4) would have prefered to heckle him (ie. acted like an idiot) for wanting to enjoy the game.

Perhaps he or his wife have medical reasons which prevent them from being able to stand long periods. Perhaps they just want to be able to sit and see the game. Everyone understands standing and getting excited for a big play, but for an entire defensive series may be a bit much.

I can see how it would frustrate you, however it seems to me that he was in the right. I do not see "while they were on defense" as a justification. I personally enjoy watching the D more than the O. Sometimes being a human being means being considerate of others wishes, even if it means you have to sacrifice "standing and clapping". Just try and see it from someone elses perspective fans come in all sorts of varieties and like all sorts of things.

Lastly I think the fact the man was not heckled by other fans is more a compliment to our fans. Insulting and jeering someone for asking you to sit is no way to conduct yourself. No one wants to be surrouned by crude and low brow thugs when they watch the game. How can you think that is acceptable...seriously how old are you?

Perfectly stated. I think he might have felt differently if he went to the game with a family member or friend who had and injury or condition that prevented him from standing for long periods of time. Then he likely would have become belligerent with the person in front of him who acted as he would himself (refusing to sit). Standing up for a minute to cheer after a big play is one thing, but there are seats for a reason.

Fine, Ok. I'm sorry I didn't believe that a man who could see perfectly fine, decided to walk down 10 rows, to pick out TWO guys and try to start something with them for no reason. I'm sorry, that it made no sense to me that someone would just out of the blue decide to take a chance and get in a fight for no reason whatsoever.

Now I see it all clearly. It makes perfect sense to me.

Perhaps he wants to stand and clap for his team when they do something good. He didn't say he was standing the whole game. In fact most people don't. They stand when soemthing exciting happens. You definately have never been to a real rock concert then. People don't sit at rock shows..They stand the WHOLE TIME. You don't go to a RUSH or Grateful Dead show and sit down. People would think you were weird..

My 2 cents:

When I pay for a SEAT at a concert, I like to be able to utilize it whenever possible without having my view obstructed. Now if I paid general admission where the floor is standing only with seats in the balconies then so be it. I'm there to see a show not "cheer" on the band.

As far as sporting events go...I like to be able to sit when i chose and then stand up and celebrate at different moments....big plays, scores, defensive stands, etc. etc. I, myself, am perfectly capable of cheering loudly whether I'm sitting or standing. There's no need to constantly stand and act a fool as if every play just won the SuperBowl.
