He's also older, fell apart at the end of the season and potentially did this so he could stick around for another season. Lets not forget this is the last season of his deal. Do you want Romo to just take the cut thus season? Should he take a 4m annual cut? What happens next season when theres another "need" that could be filled with anotger 4m cut?

He only has a 8.5m base next year already. This topic is stupid.

Peyton is taking a 4 million pay cut to help the Broncos free up cap space. Time for Romo to do the same. Romo salary will be 17 million this year. If Peyton can take a 4 million pay cut from his salary Romo can do the same. No its not a restructure that pushes money down the road, it's a straight pay cut. Come on Romo free up some cap space to help resign Dez, Murray and others.

Right on!!!

He probably would.

To all the people saying he should take a 4 million cut to help win, and hes already made enough etc. Why not just ask him to play for the vet minimum? I mean he's already made enough right? Be the ultimate team player?

I wouldnt ask him to do that.

But If I were Romo, I think I would seriously consider it. Romo will never be hurting for money or a job and has more then enough to take care of his loved ones for lifetimes to come.

Again, if I am Romo, I would put more value on a SB, then a years salary...

I really think thats exactly what I would do......

It's fair for you to think you would do that.
But in reality, none of us will ever know....we are not in that situation.

One thing should be clear though. If we need the cap space, we can get it via re-structures.

So one truth for sure is that Romo's (or Smiths or some others) contract will not be standing in the way of us signing someone.
The entire premise of this thread is false.

That's what everyone says and what almost no one actually does in the NFL.

Oh, and btw; Peyton Manning did NOT just volunteer out of the blue to give 4 mil. Denver approached him about reworking his deal or taking a cut. And even then, they wouldn't do it without him passing a pretty serious physical.

But as I said earlier, add another 3-4 years to Romo's career--so put him where Manning is now--and he very well might do the same.

A QBs arm falling of is not as big a deal as it used to be. With today's sports medicine, it's not really that big a deal anymore. It's like knee injuries back in the day. Used to be that was the end. Now, players come back from the all the time.

Here is a future generated image of what Payton might look like after such a procedure.

well, I am sure arm strength and accuracy will be off the charts, but I would be concerned about mobility, passing NFL uniform requirements, and fitting in with the team in the locker room? I mean the dynamics and chemistry of the locker room might not be ideal.....

I dont know, might need to draft a QB just in case

That would only make sense if the Cowboys were out of cap space.

Silly post.

True enough.

Do you think Romo makes the HOF without a SB appearance or win? I honestly dont know?

No, I don't. Especially with the largely unfair rep he got as a choker early in his career.

But I also don't think Romo giving back $4M of his salary significantly alters the odds of us winning the SB. Which is probably why very few players bother, even when they have cashed in already with a huge contract.

We are out of cap space. Silly comment

We have 5 million in space and several players to resign

I know this was not for me but how about we all check back in a few weeks or months and see if the 5 mill in cap space is all we ever have.
We will have 5x that number is my guess...maybe more.

The problem is he will try to assimilate the rest of the team.

yeah I agree. 4 million isnt going to make or break.

I dont think he makes the HOF either, and its a damn shame..Now, if he gets a SB win. Then I think he does.

His stats are good enough , right? ill look it up.

As much as Romo has sacrificed with his body, and $(took below market both contacts) I would never approach him about a pay cut unless he his play had fallen off a cliff. If that were to happen he's likely cut anyways though. Now if HE approached management and offered to take a cut to help the team, I would commend him for doing something not many players would entertain. For me to say he should for the betterment of the team is nonsensical and I would never utter those words at his current level of play.

He's earned what he is making and then some. The management has the key piece in place at Qb. Now its time to put the talent around him. Other teams have won with a franchise qb salary on top of the books. I see no reason the Cowboys cant do the same.

anytime a romo paycut gets brought up on here people get real sensitive but these same people have no issues telling dez and demarco to take pennies on the dollar or scram.
I don't think Romo should be asked to take a paycut (largely because the notion is absurd) but I also have no issue with Dez and Murray trying to get as much money as they can get.
