Ive seen teams over the years that are losing players because of the salary cap. When these teams pay a premium for QB they usually have a weakness in one area to make up the difference.
They lose players because they don't want to pay them .....not the salary cap

If teams have large base salaries they can always create more room with restructures than cuts

At the minimum, Dak will make $28M per season. He's done more than Matthew Stafford, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Kirk Cousins, and deserves to be better paid than any of those players. Let's say, 6 years, 171M - an average of $28.5M, with a $45M signing bonus, and $90M guaranteed over the first 3 seasons.

2019 - $45M signing bonus, $3M salary = $12M Salary CAP hit - $90M Dead Money
2020 - $20M Restructure Bonus, $1M salary = $14M Salary CAP hit - $78M Dead Money
2021 - $21M Salary = $34M Salary CAP hit - $64M Dead Money
2022 - $23M Salary = $36M Salary CAP hit - $30M Dead Money - 4th year out, save $6M against CAP
2023 - $23M Salary = $36M Salary CAP hit - $17M Dead Money - 5th year out, save $19M against CAP
2024 - $32M Salary = $36M Salary CAP hit - $4M Dead Money - 6th year out, save $32M against CAP

DAK gets paid $69M over first two seasons - an average of $34.5M per season. He is guaranteed $90M over first 3 seasons, an average of $30M per season. The Cowboys defer the CAP hits on Dak for years 1 & 2 of the contract, but can decide to eat the 3rd year, and after that, they can actually save money against the CAP by cutting Dak.

Even at a CAP hit of $36M per season, the Salary CAP is expected to be around $220M in 2022, so that is only 16% of the overall Salary CAP - which is about right for a top QB. If Dak fails to continue to improve, then the Cowboys have an out in Year 4. But if he wins a Super Bowl or two over the next 6 years, while the top QB contracts rise to about $45M per season, the Cowboys will have made a bargain deal.

A fool and his money will be parted....what a waste of $$$

Here's the problem with using team stats to judge individual performance: The team stat doesn't tell you how much of the success was due to the player and how much was due to the team. Trent Dilfer was once 22-4 as a starter over a 3-year period.

QB Win%, 1999-2001
1 Dilfer .846
2 Warner .800

Passer rating, 1999-2001
1 Warner 101.6
15 Dilfer 79.9

Stats are fun, but easy to manipulate.

You know, like forgetting to mention the legendary defense that carried
Trent Dilfer. Honestly, you could've pulled a fan from the stands to play
QB for the Ravens in that time period and still go 8-8.

How do you feel about the QBR rating that ESPN uses and takes into account the situational plays. And doesn't let the QB get all the credit for Yac.

Not a big fan. It's based on EPA, which is good. But then it also treats sacks as a QB stat -- which it isn't -- and it also probably weights QB runs more than it should. It's been tweaked a couple of times, and could use some more tweaking.

It's probably better to just look at EPA, with the caveat that most sacks aren't the QB's fault.

Won a playoff game?

That's more than Stafford, Cousins, and Grappalo have done and all three of them make around $28 a year.

That's what Dak's agent is going to tell you...……….You think Dak should make less than these guys?

yes I do has he even got us to SB that's my bench mark

can't help that other teams are stupid

And Foles accomplished more than them - so what’s your point?

Guy isn’t worth that kind of money. Not with all his weaknesses.

I wonder if they even scout QBs. They obviously didn't have a clue about any of the other QBs in Dak's class. Maybe they just feel safer going with what they've got.

If he won’t accept 18-22 mil , Better to let him prove himself this year , then deal with it . No point of overpaying an unproven QB this kind of money . We saw him struggle against many good teams .

Market Value

5 yrs, $119,157,575

Avg. Salary: $23,831,515

NFL Rank: 9

QB Rank: 9

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/dak-prescott-19089/market-value/

Sportrac was pretty accurate on their prediction on DLaw

The problem is that Sportrac is citing some contracts from ~2015 (Wilson, Newton), when the salary cap was 30% lower than it is now, and not making any adjustment for that.

Wilson's 2015 deal in 2019 dollars would be like $28.5m/year. Newton's would be like $27m/year.

Then I will give you my own which is between 25 to 28 mill. Cowboys have said they will not pay out Rodgers money on this deal

I cant believe Dak would ask for Rodgers type money. I would guess Dak is asking for 30 mil and the Cowboys are talking 23-24 mil.

I put zero stock in so called "insiders" who speculate on what Prescott's contract will be and even less when fans start guessing. WE all have to wait and see what the only people that have any real impact on the negotiations come up with. All of the QB's making an average of 30 mil per year or more have something Prescott doesn't have - they all have won divisional championships and been to the Super Bowl. The next bunch starting with Cousins the skins were STUPID enough to tag him TWO years in a row which artificially drove is price up. The 49ers over paid Garoppolo and Stafford is a 10 year vet and signed his 3rd contract and is a former #1 pick in the draft. How you think that Prescott deserves and will get as much money as QB who have done more than Prescott makes people scratch their heads.

No. They players because they don't have the cap to keep them. Heck, we've seen that happen with this team.
