I don't think you switch everyone's role to accommodate one guy. Crayton becomes #2 and plays Glenn's position. When we go 3 wide, Hurd takes Glenn's role and Crayton line up as he would as the #3.

I would guess that's how they will script it, as well. But what do I know.

Yep.

And as much as I like his speed, TO isn't slow and Crayton has shown to be a pretty good downfield threat at times. Idk why, he just gets open.

Anyway - I like Glenn a lot, and I do think we'll miss his speed, but I still am more concerned about Ellis/Newman being out than anything else.

DMN Blog: Looking for receivers

If Terry Glenn is out for a significant portion of the season, do the Cowboys look to make a trade for a receiver or see what's available on the street?

Trades are tricky because teams generally don't like to give up draft picks. But for a team that expects to win now, as the Cowboys have stated, then they might have to give up some of the '07 picks. Not either of their two first-round picks, certainly, but it might have to be a first-day selection to get anybody good.

I saw some reports earlier in camp that Miami's Chris Chambers might be available, but I don't see that happening. The Patriots have a plethora of receivers on their roster and the Joneses certainly get along with the Krafts. Maybe there's something there.

If you're looking on the street, you've got guys like Reche Caldwell, who played for New England last year and helped beat Wade Phillips in the playoffs, Az Hakim and former Cowboys Quincy Morgan and Antonio Bryant. Whomever signs Bryant, however, has to have sit out a game because of an NFL suspension. Here's a name: Keenan McCardell. He's the ultimate professional. He can pick up a system quickly.

Well, there is a thin line here. Do we think a guy off the street will hamper the development of our youth, or are our youth just not ready (or good enough) to carry the load yet.

Keenan would be a decent addition, Antonio back?? That would be news worthy with a thread 200 posts long.

This is such a depressing way to start the season...and we haven't even played the G-Men yet. All this means is that Julius better step it up this year because any downfield threat we had before is now gone.
And if TO ever gets hurt this season...we're screwed.

Well...they used a FOURTH ROUND pick on Stanback. Mister electrifying, remember?

DO NOT give me this "he's a developmental guy" nonsense, either. Maybe if you just won the Super Bowl you make that pick. Not when you have Terry "mister glass" Glenn.

Hey I have an idea. Why not take a wideout who has actually shown he has a knack to play that position?

Ridiculous.

Fourth round picks and beyond always have warts. You don't find guaranteed starters in the fourth round. We KNEW we had potential trouble with Ellis and that position was addressed in Spencer with the added bonus of Cleveland's first next year. If Spencer works out (which I have no doubt he will) we are in great shape. We also knew we had two starting WRs who were healthy but in their thirties. Do you roll the dice and hope they both make it through another season, knowing you have a very good 3rd WR already on the roster, or do you draft a WR in the first and bet that Ellis is ready to play an entire season on his repair job? I think the right choice was made.

Everything is a trade off in the NFL. All of the rules have been set up for parity to level the playing field. This is a direct result of our great teams of the 90's. Draft, waiver rules, and salary cap all work together to limit the quality of a team.

Next draft we have two firsts. By then we will know who stepped up and who can't cut it. Worst case is that we need to find three starters (WR-CB-RB) in the next draft which almost never happens on a contender. You address two of the three in the first round and either resign Julius Jones or take a flyer on a later round running back to go with MBIII and Tyson Thompson.

But that's getting WAY ahead of ourselves. For goodness sake, we haven't even played the first game yet!

If that ever happens, then I will jump on the ship is sinking bandwagon...

But with hm healthy, at least our offense will be respected by other teams.

There is a reason Keenan has not made a roster this year. And it isn't because the teams he tried out for had an abundance of quality, proven receivers.

Yeah, if that does happen, we will have to look into getting at least one of those needs filled in free agency. Can't go into the draft with that many needs, forces you to pick for a position and not the best available player. Not a position you want to be in.

Hate to have to look at restocking so many skill positions, something good needs to happen soon to get us out of this situation.

Of course there is a reason Keenan hasn't made a roster. But our situation ain't too great right now, it is up to the coaches as to whether he can help us or not. I said he might be decent, didn't say he would be a savior.

We drafted one WR and two CB's. WR's usually take about three years to develop. I'm also really happy that Wade didn't draft Robert Meachum.

2 7th round corners and a QB wanna-be-wr.

Ball was cut.

Brown was moved to safety.

Stanback is learning how to play WR.

Nice draft picks.

This is how the Detroit Lions were 'built'

Put down the 'blue kool aid.'

I've been a Cowboys fan since '77.

I don't like the way my team is being managed.

No. The Lions were built by drafting a bunch of early first round receivers.

I gotta be honest - a WHOLE lotta hubbub over a WR, which I consider to be one of the most overrated positions in all of football. Other than Indy, it's been a while since a team won a superbowl with 2 great WRs. You can survive with just one, people.

You can survive with no great receivers. Baltimore and New England have both won superbowls without having a great receiver. I'm actually much more worried about CB than WR.

I'm still way more concerned about defense than offense. Even without Glenn we have a lot of cogs on offense for defenses to worry about.

So Jerry lied and gave fans false hope when he knew Glenn was lost for the season? That's scandalous if true.
If that were scandalous, Bill Belicheck would always be embroiled in scandal.
