You can't be serious. You think Stanback will be ready to replace Terry Glenn by next year?
It takes WR's that played the position in college a couple of years to adjust to the pro game. It's going to take a QB to WR conversion considerably longer to be considered starting material.
Matt Jones, the QB turned WR that the Jaguars drafted is still trying to adjust to the position. The only reason they start him, is because the rest of their WR's are just as bad. I would hate for that to be the position we're in next year.
What is it about "long term" and "I doubt he's ready" that you don't understand?
Crayton was a college QB. He seemed to do OK.
Every player is different in how they adjust to the pro game, but you need to read my post again. I said I doubted Stanback would be ready before sometime next year. That doesn't mean he can step in for Glenn week one. It means someone has to step up for at least this season and part of next season at the best. If that doesn't happen there is going to be a lag while even a 1st rounder develops into a starter.
That also doesn't mean we have to panic and trade the house for another retread WR. We lucked out with Glenn. He washed out with two teams before he found a home here. I would rather see a guy developed in-house but my crystal ball is broken and I don't know how Hurd and Austin and Stanback and Crayton will work out this season. I doubt you do either.
Trading for a star wideout would cost a fortune. Luckily (or masterfully played by our GM, depending on how you look at it) we have not one but two first round picks next year to fill this hole. I would have loved to have had two first round picks last year to get a WR and and OLB but we didn't so why are you getting your panties in a knot about it? You can only use each draft pick one time so choices have to be made.
Do you want Carpenter starting Sunday? The choice is either him or Junior Glymph if we don't take Spencer. I'd rather have Crayton and Spencer than Glenn and Glymph.
