Mea culpa I was wrong

We take that cap hit this year (the accelerated bonus)

However we don't have any of that 7.2 million which would have been incurred next year or after a June 1st cap hit

Basically the way his contract was structured he was either owed that 5 million dollar bonus, or his salary the next 3 years was guranteed. The Commanders got out of THAT 5 million

But you are correct, the original 5 million dollar bonus accelerated and gave us the hit of about 4 million this year

My bad

Wow ....... way to stand up like a man.

I commend you skinsfan.

Stop pulling recollections out of that Burgundy and Gold colostomy bag you like to call Extremeskins. Terrance Newman was not 'almost considered a bust'--whatever that means--anywhere else.

idgit, (and adamknite), i didnt find threads titled "newman!!!", "tell me again how newman is a top 5 corner in the league?", "OMG...newman is soooooooo bad", "newman stinks version 4.0", "is newman a bust" and "another #1 bust" on extremeskins....

Plus the idea that 6th round pick will probably not make the team.

Danny knows how to stretch a dollar and get his moneys worth. :p:

awwww, shame on you choc. you should know how alot of cowboy fans felt about t new not too long ago....

I think a big point of confusion on all these disagreements is that there's a huge difference in saying that a guy is playing bad versus being a bad player.

Probably even the biggest Roy and Newman fans can admit that they have not played well this year, or at least not as well as they are capable of playing. It's when the words "bust", "can't play", "was never any good", "wasted pick", etc. are used that people get defensive and start arguing.

I've said this before, but every player has down years. Maybe it's just as well that these guys have their down years when we aren't going to win the Super Bowl anyway.

 People are very passionate about their favorite team, and when the team and players are having a bad year there are a lot of knee jerk reactions. People who react like that can hardly count as the majority. Then again I also wouldn't expect you to find a lot of threads about Newman on ES, well now that I think about it yeah I'm suprised you didn't because that's all you skins fans ever care about is what's going on with the Cowboys.

to be fair, i said newman was 'almost considered to be a bust' after his second year. in the eyes of alot of fans, he was. to others, he wasnt. i think you could say the majority of fans thought he was not playing very well. opinions varied. i think i was fair. the reaction was such that you would have thought i was making this stuff up, or that is was my opinion. truth is, i got these opinions from this site. next time, i'll say 'almost considered a bust by alot -depending on how you define 'alot'- of cowboy fans due to his lackluster play considering he was a high #1 draft pick'

For you Big D fan, since you didn't see it the first time
Getting rid of the roster bonus was only one part of this. Yeah, the Skins made out on that. He will now count about a million and a half more off the roster than on rather than about 7 million more off the roster than on.

It's similar to Arrington last year.

This is a great deal for the Skins but don't exaggerate. They do take a cap hit this year.

as far as rogers is concerned, imo, the jury is still out. like t new, hes shown flashes his first 2 years. last year, the entire D was really awful. taylor didnt look good, rogers at times didnt look good. cant say anyone outside of marcus washington looked good. the D finished the previous season as the best D in the NFL over the last 6 weeks of the season. the finished last season 31st. hard to judge rogers just yet, given the total collapse of the team around him.

Now this part is not true

The Commanders spent 5 million on AA last year, however will spend nothing on him this year. That is how the deal got done

The cap hit is coming from the SB from last year, as BigDFan correctly pointed out to me

no, i think that is wrong, last years money and cap is closed out, i believe the 4 mill is on this years cap.

Go re-read what Big D posted, the Skins have a 4 mill SB to pay out and because he is now gone it will all be put into THIS year Cap...the 5 mill last season was his salary and the portion of the SB (1.6 mil aprox.)......See a SB can be spread out for the life of a contract and since his ended this season, the skins have to eat it in this years cap. The Bears picked up the roster bonus and guarantee money.........like i said 10 mill (9.something) and one year of arch deluxe for a 6th round pick!

No no no

Here is the breakdown for this year's cap hit, had he stayed in Washington. He was due a 5 million dollar bonus, but deffered it and now Chicago is picking that up

595 salary
1 mil SB proration (from his 5 million dollar SB paid out last year)
.833 option bonus proration (this years 5 mil, which would have been spread out over the remaining life of the contract)

= 2.428 mil cap figure this year.

What happened is the remaining 4 million dollar bonus that was prorated over the next 4 years was accelerated to this year

So now we take a 4 million dollar cap hit, a difference of about 1.6 million had we kept him

The 5 million dollar bonus he was owed this year is no longer relevant because he deffered it and the Bears picked that up in the contract he signed with them

As a matter of fact, from today's Washington Times

http://www.washingtontimes.com/sports/20070321-125818-1305r.htm

Archuleta received a $5 million signing bonus last year, $4 million of which eventually will count against Washington's salary cap. It's believed the Commanders will use one of their June 1 exceptions so that Archuleta will count only $1.5 million against the cap this year, with the rest coming in 2008.

please, Rogers has looked terrible 2 years running, while Newman was great as rookie, and actually had a good year in '04
