There is some kind of x factor here that we can't measure which is that Moore apparently has a role you could say of Linehan assistant. He supposedly is very good at breaking film down, drawing up game plans, etc. and has been doing this for Linehan to one degree or another. How much he brings to the table in this regard is apparently pretty sizable in Linehan's eyes. I don't know but I think it plays a role in how attached Linehan seems to the guy. It's an obvious cut in my book so that has to be it.

I don't think anyone is discounting the fact that he is probably providing more as a Linehan assistant. That is fine. Cut him and put a coach's whistle around his neck.

I think they like him specifically in the QB room to help the other guys along.

We carried Sanchez all last season and somehow managed. I don't get why people are so concerned about the 3rd QB spot now. With a 2nd year starter and a rookie you may want to develop, it seems like a reasonable time to keep 3 if you're ever going to.
The Weeden, Cassel, Moore unholy trio still scares the hell out of us and rightfully so..

They love Moore, he will get the roster spot. The only thing we can hope for in keeping Rush at this point is that he tanks these last two games and looks terrible. Then, his stock MIGHT go down enough to where they can sneak him onto the practice squad.

Agreed. As long as they keep Rush, I dont care what they do with Moore. A team should have 3 QB's at all time anyway. This 2 QB things is silly to me. To keep some 9th lineman or 7th linebacker or extra WR is silly compared to finding and developing the most important position in football.
I have only one that issue with keeping 3. Can Kellen be developed to be better than what we are seeing now? He's been in the league for awhile as it is so I have my doubts. I really don't like the idea of cutting another player who is better at his craft then Kellen is at his simply because we want to carry 3 QBs. Especially for Kellen who appears to be an automatic loss in the unlikely scenario he has to play.

At least if we keep Noah Brown, he can actually contribute on game day on special teams.

The argument for keeping the veteran QB is that he helps the two players you're trying to develop at that position, more than it is that you're going to develop Moore any further. Considering what we've got invested in the position group in total right now--very little money and a late 4th round pick--the extra roster spot is a pittance if you think it helps you. Even if all you get out of it is a guy you're comfortable putting in to finish a game in a pinch with very little prep during the week. It's possible they love Rush but don't want to rush him into service without the benefit of reps in the game plan in a real game.

There are a dozen Noah Browns available based off of what he's shown so far. He's basically another Darius Jackson. Yes, we'd like to keep him, but we'd be able to keep both three QBs and Brown if we really wanted to. All it'd cost us is a backup TE.

Whatever they end up doing, they're acing the QB problem in my book. If they found another player in Rush, even if it's just a young QB2 for down the road, that's two huge wins for basically free in my book. They ought to get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to developing these guys for now.

I'm with you. At the end of the day, so long as they don't cut Rush at the expense of keeping Moore, I'll get over losing Brown in waivers, which I think is a real possibility. As to the value you believe Moore brings, that does beg the question of why they don't just cut Kellen, see if anyone claims him (which I doubt) and then hire him to be an assistant QB coach.

In my search to determine the real connection between Moore and Linehan, I found an article somewhere quoting Kellen that stated he eventually does wantd to be a coach once his playing days are behind him. So if no one picks him up after being cut, that's an offer I suspect he would take in a heartbeat.

Well, I suppose he could have said, "yeah, Kellen kind of sucks right now. And Cooper has been much better than Kellen in the games. I don't know why we are even letting Moore take any snaps at all. Let's just cut him and move on."

And then he would hear Garrett say, "you're fired. Let's just move on." Coaches, especially assistant coaches, NEVER give an honest public evaluation about a player that is struggling. And, they always try to temper enthusiasm about a young player playing well. And THAT is the right approach to answering pre-season questions about roster spots and player evaluations.

I find it amusing that some people get irate and find conspiracy theories behind "coach-speak" in preseason.

Kellen Moore is a very good backup to have. Yes I would keep him this year and maybe next if he can hold off Rush, but I definitely would keep Cooper Rush and not take a chance on him making it to the practice squad. Cooper is a keeper. But keep Kellen this season if possible, but if not I would try to entice Kellen to become a coach he has the intelligence to help the QBs, but if push come to shove let him go with a promise to be brought back as a coach when he is finished playing, like we did with Jason Garrett.

His playing days were behind him the second the clock hit 0:00 in his final game at Boise State.

Linehan's comments on the current state of QB backup situation I take as company line speak. He see's and knows what's going on with Rush vs Moore but no need to voice that at this point.

Hey, as long as they keep Rush, then Linehan can have his pet cat in Moore.

But if they cut Rush and lose him because they want to keep Moore on the 53, that's beyond moronic.
Not a Rookie QB fan ..... but I'd rather have to start Cooper Rush than Kellen Moore even as a Rookie, there's just not a clear eye view advantage here because down the road the loss of Rush could be catastrophic.
