Something seems different

I'm feeling that the stamp of Jerry has been modified to the stamp of Jerry plus Steven and Jason over the last 3 seasons and now add another vote to the mix with the stamp of Will McClay. That evens out the club box ticket/merchandise sales votes and the playing field votes. Things are changing and the acquisitions look better than ever this offseason.

It is very possible. Drafting OL in the 1st rd, is not something of Jerry, but the trade up to get Mo, was. Maybe Jerry is changing, I hope at least. But, then again, we said the same thing, when TO was cut.

I know it's early and I maybe falling in a trap yet again with my beloved Cowboys but their seems to be something different going on with the organization. We are aggressively searching high and low churning this roster looking to add guys who are coming to try out for us who may have been disregarded or given up on. Now I'm not saying this means anything cause we haven't played a game yet but I like the direction we are headed in. We r a young football team we are getting real young on D still remains to be seen if it translates on the field but I like we are being aggressive

It happens every year shortly after the draft. The first issue is there is no such thing as a lowlight video on youtube. So when you go do the video research, all you are going to see, for the most part, are monsters on the field. The second thing, is we as humans thrive on hope. We need it, otherwise life is a little less worth living. Hope springs eternal. So to be honest, Jerry has nothing to do with it. This is human nature at it's worst or best, dependent on how you choose to look at it.

Now, having said all that from a realistic platform, I'll admit I like the direction of this team. I do not believe, however, our defense is better. They will have to prove that to me. And no amount of highlights against lesser competition, regardless of what conference they played in, will do that for me. I need to see them do it against a professional team. What many people don't understand about those highlight videos is very few kids who play in college, make it to the pro's. The best of the best need only apply. And the speed of the game changes exponentially. Much moreso than it does when moving from high school to college. And that is why we see bust every year. The lights are just too big for some.

So at this point, it's anyone's guess what we have. But I have noticed the Cowboys are turning over alot of rocks and I like what I see. The crazy thing is, aside from Martin, I have more favorite UDFA's than the Cowboys actual draft picks.

Catch17...You and I go way back to The Ranch...and normally we agree on about 99% of everything. But I gotta agree w/ the OP on this....Something is different this year. Someone else rather than Jerry is pulling the strings behind the scenes this year. I don't know who....other than the rumored Wil McClay. Regardless...Whoever it is...I feel this is the 1st time since Parcells that there is a sense of hope. And I'd take whoever is making personnel decisions right now...over Parcells. There has been only 3 slightly questionable decisions IMO that I'd change..1. (I would have taken LB Telvin Smith over Hutchings in the 4th) 2. Would have signed RG Davin Joseph(FA Tampa Bay) 3. Would have drafted a punter (O'Donnell(Miami) to Chicago 6th round)....other than that....every other decision I can see the logic and would have made myself. (ok, maybe not cutting Ware..but that is another story) But to your point....For me as of right now..I think your right. Garrett has no more excuses. This is his team. And I for one like the direction of this team.(Finally)!!!! I just hope he can coach this SOB because the talent is here. The schedule is working against him is my fear....And he won't see the following season if we fall below 500. If you did see solid coaching decisions and this team still under performed...then this would be a hard call to make regarding a coaching change. IMO this team is still a year away from being a serious contender...but then your facing Romo, Witten, Spencer, Carr, being another year older. So where do you go from there?

I don't see how you guys get sucked into believing it's going to be different every year.

Garrett plays not to lose and when you do that you stay average like we always do.

I think, when you are at ground zero, the only place to go is up.

But, I think Linehan(sp?), was brought in to actually call the Offensive game.

This is a truism, no doubt. But the Cowboys have gone 8-8 three years in row...they have defied the odds with their stasis, so I wouldn't let your hope swell too much, if you are simply basing it off the odds.

Ground zero, as in the Defense, not the Offense.

It's really the only hope I have going into the season and I don't even think Linehan is anything special.

Well, it is a pass oriented NFL, and seeing what he did in Detroit, I really do have optimism, and remember, I am not really high on the Cowboys. I still refuse to purchase anything Dallas Cowboys, so Jerry doesn't get my money, until something changes.

If we were dealing with the exact same defense, this argument might have merit. But since we got younger there is, at this point, no ceiling on how good or bad this defense can be. Prepare yourself for the worst, because while I agree with this teams effort to get younger, there will be growing pains.

I can buy into Linehan... Don't get me wrong. Anything will be better than Jason Garrett.

All of it means nothing to me until the actual results on the field change.

I think Garrett is so bad at coaching that we will never be a real threat with him.

I'm right there with you bro. Let's all pretend like we're in the state of Missouri.

Anytime you ask Romo to throw the ball a lot, you're asking for major trouble.....

We have tried the pass happy offense and FAILED miserably with it.

I'm with you on the Cowboys merchandise ban though. I'm a season ticket holder so I have to buy those but I'm selling them and making money off them.

There's nothing wrong with being optimistic, regardless of what the sad little men around here will have you believe by their posts.

Lawrence is not a project player IMO. It could go good or bad with any rookie but if you feel he's a project than I'm not sure if you're just hating or we have different definitions of what a project player is.

Yeah, I don't see how a guy from a good program who had 20 sacks, 34 TFL, and 7 FF in 23 games is a "project". I think those are his stats. I'm going off of memory of what I had read, but I know those numbers are close. He was drafted about where he was projected by many to go. He doesn't seem like a project at all.
