I've been wondering who would be Garrett's DC when he takes over in '09. I think I may have just found my answer...:blech:

Whoever Jerry says it'll be. Stewart's Wade's guy so he'd be out. Don't be shocked if it were Campo.

At any rate the hiring has not even happened yet. I remember when everyone was so sure we would hire Norv Turner last year.

This may be a whole lot of hullaballoo for nothing.

Quite possibly. BP brought the 3-4 in here. One of Wade's big selling points was that he was a good 3-4 DC. When he leaves, I don't think we are married to it any longer.

So because Del Rio is willing to let him leave means he's a bad coach? Faulty logic there. There could be other reasons than Del Rio wanting him to leave such as honoring a man's wish to return to Dallas where he has family. You assume it's because Del Rio wants him gone when it's one of many possible scenarios.

When his replacement is hired the same day he grants permission for the coach to interview, chances are he is not playing around.

Campo had top rated pass defenses when the Cowboys were winning SBs. That can be attributed to talent, but talent alone does not guarantee success as this year's Cowboys show.

He doesn't have the talent he had with the 1990s Cowboys. Not by a long shot. That's why his job would be even harder.

Do you honestly think when we were winning Super Bowls Campo just sat on the bench digging his nose and scratching his butt?

Do you honestly think he was a secondary guru who worked wonders with people like Sanders and Woodson to make them the Hall of Famers they were?

No but it's probably somewhere in between.

I'd say a lot depends on how the defense performs this year, then.

If Wade's defense takes another step forward, I find it hard that we would scrap the whole system.

If it flounders then a change may not be so surprising.

I don't see the big deal.

Evaluated by the initial nausea that hits the second you hear "Dave Campo Dallas cowboys", it sounds terrible. Evaluated as he's a decent positional coach, and it's not so bad.

If you're terrified of Jerry though, I'm sure it just seems more and more like they're just getting the band back together. These are people Jason Garrett is likely comfortable with. Long term, that might be wise.

Long term, perhaps. But short term, that is bad news for Wade Phillips and for all practical purposes, this team which is still theoretically his.

I have yet to see a head coach succeed in an environment when he did not have control of some kind.

I am sure everyone loves him, but how much can they respect a head coach who cannot even give the impression that it is his team?

Garrett should have been promoted if this is the method that was going to be used.

I don't know. I can't worry about things that can't be quantified. Maybe they know that Phillips just doesn't give a crap, and as long as you're a good coach, he'll work with you. Maybe this was Phillips pick - maybe one of Phillips contacts told him Campo could work wonders with our group of underachievers? I don't see how that can be ruled out, however unlikely.

Then we'd all be losing our minds over firing a coach after one season of 13-3, and how this is just Jerry going back to being Jerry all over again. It's a no-win situation.

So be it. I would welcome it being above-board rather than this which is clearly not. It is not fair to Phillips, even though he doesn't appear to mind.

What's with the obsession of retreads?...Forget Campo, let's see Dallas go with someone young and aggressive for secondary coach...Anyone else tired of seeing our DBs lineup 5 yards off the LOS?...Come on.

All that matters is whether or not it works next January. If Campo can help that aspect, then I don't care how they treat Phillips, or how fair the process is. He certainly doesn't care, or at least doesn't show it.

Exactly. If we have postseason success then who gives a frick? And if Phillips doesn't care, why should I?

Okay it's clearly why the Cowboys are going into this direction. Why? because maybe the Cowboys might be going back to the 4-3 once Wade Phillips is gone. In 2009? Maybe? Dave Campo will be the defensive cordinator of it like he was when Cowboys was winning superbowls.... :)

It's not clear at all.

We have not even hired the guy.

Not to defend this choice, but this league is full of retreads. Like a soap opera where every ends up dating or marrying each other, the same pawns tend to be in play and probably will be for a while as many executives are leery of hiring college coaches any more. It is like a strange game of musical chairs. Except this coach has already sat in our chair.
