A lot better than signing Carl Nicks to $30+ million guaranteed went for the Bucs.

I beg to differ.

But I wanted Grubbs over Nicks. So swing and a miss.

Obviously, Cowboys like spencer. What they really liked was his attitude last year. Garrett talked a lot about his positive body language"

OH yeah, he had a great attitude LAST year.. what about all the other years he was here? Dude had one good year and now we tag him?

1. We pay him a fortune for one year to make sure last year wasn't a fluke.

2. We Tag him and then try to instead sign him to a long term contract.

3. We Tag him.. only to trade him for a #1 or #2.

Which option do you think it will be? I can assure you that option 3 isn't even being considered. That is sad too.. because it is my favorite option.

I also wanted Cordy Glenn in the draft over DeCastro.

Somebody stop me.

I do not believe we'll be able to trade him for that kind of compensation. If it happens, great. I just don't think teams will be lining up to pay that kind of money and give away prime draft picks for a DE/OLB approaching 30 with one year of double digit sacks on his resume.

If he is indeed tagged, he's a Cowboy in 2013 IMO.

This moves give the Cowboys leverage heading into the future as Spencer will be 30 after this season.

Now we understand why Stephen said that FA will be tight this year and they wouldn't be on a shopping spree like last year. The Cowboys had already decided to franchise Spencer a second year and had figured his $10.608M figure into the books.

What I find intriguing is how they franchised him as a LB instead of a DE.

The other intriguing aspect is if he indeed will play DE and what Marinelli can do for him.

They'd better get Spencer signed longterm or trade him

Because we need to go get a safety asap before Jerry blows a first rounder on one.

Spencer was our defensive MVP last season and it wasn't even close. He literally played 5 different positions at times. Not many guys in the NFL can do that.

We lost Church, Lee, Carter, Coleman, Ratliff, Brent & scandrick. All starters at the time they went down. Who got the green sticker once Carter was lost for the season? Spencer. How many OLB can can handle that?

DE is his natural position. Watch the all 32 film. Spencer was our only reliable player on D last year. Ware's injuries concern me more than anything Spencer might worry me about.

You can differ all you want, that $31 million was standing in street clothes by Halloween.

You must have missed the part that I wanted Ben Grubbs over Nicks.

But even at that, I'd take Nicks with the injury last year over wasting 50 million on Brandon Carr.

So we franchised a player who will be 30 next season and only had one 10 sack season in his career. Not understanding the organizations thinking on this one. The money should go to that guard from the Bills. Once again, providing Romo with talented linemen is the key.

With the franchise tag, the Cowboys still have a lot of scenerios still on the table with what they can do with Spencer for the long haul, but letting a double digit pass rusher in his prime just walk away with getting nothing in return is astoundingly and mind-numbingly illogical. You don't just let highly valuable assets walk away for nothing.

It amazes me that this is not the majority opinion on the board

You cqn always drop the tag also and let spencer just become a UFA if you can't get a long term deal done

I wouldn't mind him doing that tbh. I like the Vaccaro kid and plus I dont think Womack and Cooper make it to 18.
