And yet, he was still productive and made big plays despite limited opportunities being available. Take away the passes thrown to Bryant and Witten, and there were only 245 targets to go around for all of our other receivers, tight ends and running backs combined -- that is a ridiculously low number and by far the fewest in the NFL. Most teams had more than 300 passes thrown to someone other than their No. 1 receiver and tight end, and six teams had more than 400. Give Williams the same percentage of those targets that he got here, and his per-target stats would prorate to more than 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns.

How hard is it to just say you were wrong?

Dez took plays off as well. There was plenty of evidence of this back in 2011.

Really, that ends the discussion for me. You guys can continue with it until the start of the 2015 season.

Too funny. Williams comes out and admits that he takes the occasional play off. Detractors somehow take this as vindication for their tangentially related views that he needs to be upgraded. Never mind that he's likely the fourth option on most pass plays and has been quite productive given limited opportunities. Can't miss an opportunity to thump our chests, now can we?

See you missing the fact that maybe Witten and Bryant wouldn't have all those targets, if Williams wasn't taking plays off, and actually stepped up to be a guy Romo could trust.

Some of those passes, at times Romo would either force to Witten/Bryant or simply hold onto the ball and find them(SOME). Williams does himself no favors taking plays off, and being a body catcher.

Probably should have taken a few more off given the number of times he seemingly wasnt even looked at.

Nope we can't. Not when the horse comes out and says it.

4th option? Then the ***** does not need to be the 2nd WR. ******* eating space out there. Come in as the 4th WR, Bum.

If he's the 4th option, what does he do so well for us that he needs to be a number 2, and starting? Is is blocking so great? Does he create mis matches? Is he demanding double teams?

Take off those damn shades. You love anything with a star and refuse to believe anyone with a star can do wrong. You would take 5 Williams at WR, and be happy. Just because he wears a star.

The Bum came out and admitted it. Now you are going to defend Williams against Williams? :lmao:

Id say what he does so well is that he produces extremely well for getting so few looks.

So few looks because he takes plays off.

Most of his big plays, come from him being wide open, or the play breaking down. Then that's it.

If he can't get behind the defender and have at least 2 steps, he's almost useless.

maybe that explains why they're bring in a bunch of WRs. He made some clutch plays tho last year. As other posters have said, this habit is not unique to him and at least he's owning up to it

Nonsense. Williams clearly has room for improvement (as, evidently, even he is admitting). But if the view is that we need him to be dominant as the WR2, failing which he should be replaced, frankly it's an ill-considered and uninformed view. And no amount of bluster and chest-thumping will improve it. Sorry.

I cant speak for others, but from my perspective...I like the player. It's just a pet peeve of mine to hear or see players take plays off no matter who they are.

All year, all the training and staying in shape and practice and studying mentally, etc and there are only 16 games to a season, not like other sports where there are many more like baseball. So wouldnt you want to give it your all for the small amount of time that you get on the field ? What is it for him, about 40 - 50 plays 1 x /week - 30 minuets he has on the field ?

I also think its letting down the other guys on the team that might be counting on you. I just dont agree with it or excuses that seem to make it "OK".

Now that doesnt mean i'm rooting for him to lose his spot on the team at all. And i have to agree that he has been productive as the 3rd or 4th option. And i also beleive that no player is perfect and everyone has some issues to work on, thats all well and good and its good that he is facing it and deciding to change that. So hopefully he will be even better this year than last - and i think that is what he is trying to say in this situation.

I think its more uncommon that a player comes out and says it than it is that they do it.

I think football opinions boil down to having playing the game under countless coaches who employ varying football schemes and philosophies. Or playing the game outside organized sanctioned games. Or playing video games based on the sport. Or watching games from bleachers or sofas. Or coaching either the game or other team sports (and possibly individual sports). Or various combinations of the above.

Just an opinion. Now back to Barring Serious Injury Terrance Williams Shall Be The Starting #2 Wide Receiver Of The 2015 Dallas Cowboys All Season Long But Boy Will He Get Reamed Out In This Thread, Yes Sirree Bob.
