The Walking Dead (S5) - First half of season thread

Thinking about it a little, I was a bit harsh on this episode. It was a better than what I initially thought. But following a great episode automatically put it on weak footing with me.

The other challenge I had with it is that it followed (and is following) the comics a bit too faithfully which reduces much of the intrigue presently going on.

Bob-BQ

There was something like this in the comics but I think it was Dale who they ate the leg from.

However I also think it will follow the Comics.

I think Bob was bitten when he was underwater with the zombies in the pit at the food bank.

He had an odd look about him. Later when he asked for one more kiss, he went outside and started crying. I think at that point he knew he had been bitten and we was going to go off and kill himself.

Bang he was abducted and he woke up to find out the cannibals had caught him and had already cut his leg off and was eating it.

I think this will follow a similar situation that the comics did.

Yep. My feelings exactly.

I liked how they rolled Terminus into the Hunter storyline. It will make it much more personal.

Seems like too much time has gone by for Bob to turn if he had been bitten. It sure seems like he has been, but I have seen characters turn more quickly. Guess it depends on the bite.

What are everyone's thoughts on the priest? Did he lock everyone below with the food at the center?

I thought so also.

That's correct I had forgotten that it's what they did in the comics. The cannibals didn't realize they'd ate the leg of an infected person.

Time has nothing to do with Bob turning. He was still alive. He has to die before he turns. The bite/scratch gives them a fever that eventually burns them out, THEN they turn. Bob knew he was living on borrowed time, and was about to kill himself when Gareth and his group captured him.

As far as the priest, when it all started he panicked and locked people out of his church. They were outside begging to be let in, when the walkers got them. Hence, the scratches around the windows, and the message that he'd burn in hell on the side of the church. The priest could hear them dying, and that is the sin he hasn't confessed to Rick. Yet.

Was Bob from Gareth's group originally? Gareth talked like he knew him.

I also knew Bob was on borrowed time. He got a lot of air time and he was talking about the nightmare was going to end and they could all be back in the real world.

Seems like he locked them all out, including the woman in the photo, which appeared to be his wife. Who startled him when they were going for food and Rick saved him.

But isn't everyone already infected? Can't recall if the comics established that like the show.

My 12 year old turned to me during one of Bob's lines and said 'that's foreshadowing. He's going to die soon.' So, yeah, the writing was on the wall a bit. Not sure how Gareth knew Bob, but I think most of the familiarity was to make the pan out more impactful. And, yeah, I think he pretty obviously was infected. Though he shouldn't probably have been kissing anybody after getting bit.

Dooms, I think that lady in the photo wasn't his wife, but rather just the church pianist, but I do suspect the good reverend knew her better than he was supposed to. I haven't read any of the comics, on purpose, so this is all just my best guess as to what's going on.

They are, but I think they're carriers ordinarily with the airborne virus, but that the blood born virus is more virulent and can often kill you with fever.

5-2 was written by Kirkman himself. Perhaps that is why. :)

I think they did in the comic as well but it's like just eating them gives it to you because everyone is all infected and capable at death, no matter how dying, of becoming one. That's the reason why if they'd ate a person who wasn't biten they wouldn't turn. But in this case because Bob, and in the comic it was Dale, was bitten then when they eat them they're eating a person whose already dying from the bite. Thus they activate the infection in themselves and die.

It was never revealed in the comics if eating tainted meat would affect them in any way. Shortly after they ate Dale's leg, Rick and the crew arrived and killed them all.

I could have swore that in the comic Dale revealed to them that they ate tainted meat and would die. Rick and them came to kill them anyway but I thought the idea was that they were going to die anyway.

I could be way wrong on that though.
