Thoughts on Romo and Why I said it

Since everyone wanted to jump in and bash me on the game thread I figured I might as well start an actual thread to give the zone another chance to do the same, or perhaps a chance to see what I was saying.

I'll be the first to tell you Romo had a great game today. He is the best QB here since Aikman.

I do not believe that Romo has it in him to take this team to a super bowl.

I do believe that Romo will have GREAT games, make Great plays, win lots of games and take us to he playoffs.

The only problem is I see Romo making the same mistakes over and over again and at critical times during the game. Turning the ball over in the redzone, throwing deep ball picks (hey they are as good as a punt right?), throwing the ball into triple coverage...those types of things. He made some of those same mistakes in today's game early in the first half. Which is what led to my original statement. It just does not seem to me that he has been able to take some of these mistakes out of his game.

I know all QBs are going to make these types of mistakes, but Romo seems to make them at critical times (ie. the big December Games and the playoffs). Most of the QBs who take their team to a Super Bowl don't do this.

Now...could Romo take the Patriots to a Super Bowl, probably. Are there many QBs who could take this team to a Super Bowl, probably not. But in order for this team to go to a super bowl Romo needs to take out these mistakes and step it up one more level (the top level of QBs, I would say only P Manning, Brady, and maybe one or two more are better). This team is not solid enough for Romo to be making those types of mistakes and get into a super bowl.

Sure Romo is going to have games like today, and I loved his game today, fun to watch, games like he had against TB on thanksgiving a few years back, but he is also going to have games like he did against Philly last year, against NY two years ago, games like Buffalo 2007, Games like Cinci last year....

To me (and I am not the first to make this comparison so I don't know why today I get bashed for saying it) Romo is Danny White, he will have great stats, he will have great games, he will set records, he just does not have quiet what it takes to get THIS team to a Superbowl. A lot of you are right though, there are no better options, because 1) he is pretty dang good most of the time and 2) better QBs are rare and hard to find. So IMO, we stick with him and just hope that we can improve the team around him.

So, I hope I am wrong. I am not a troll, I have no agenda, I don't think I am overly pessimistic on most things (though maybe I am). I have been a Cowboys fan since I was born. I have not missed a Cowboys game in years. I look foward to the game all week, and I always hope for nothing for the best for the team and the players. Shoot, I even have an autographed picture of Tony Romo playing against Carolina his first full game, framed and hanging in my living room. I hope I am wrong, but as of right now, I don't think he has what it will take to take this team to a Superbowl.

This is the first time I have seen someone on here echo my sentiments exactly. Romo is the classic tease. I really hope he gets this team spinning into the right direction like a juggernaut down the stretch. Great game today. 1 down & many to go.

Look at the post history ..... that might worry you.

Oh I did! loved it, i already said he did great today...and you are right, it's pointless to debate it right now.

Well you've said it - we're just waiting for you to understand what you've said.

Never worried... I don't get into the post history of other fans. It's not that serious. At least to me... ;)

I just think it's hilarious that people are in denial over December and January..that's all I hope the history changes. What's wrong with a fellow fan saying that? I don't get all the hate. I'm not hatin'. I love the Cowboys and all my fellow fans but as a fan I reserve the right to complain as much as I do cheer. What's the problem?? I don't get it.

Is anyone here saying he's played great in December and January?

If there is, I'll shut up and say you're right.

But there's not. So you're just being idiotic about this, arguing against no one.

He and his ilk just want to complain about anything ......any minute he will start complaining that the mods are biased for not allowing his "free speech"

Wake up zrinkill, you can't argue with what I have said.

There's very much a difference between saying Romo hasn't played well in December and January, which no one can argue against, and saying he cannot play well in December and January. You're saying the latter. That's just ridiculous.

Whats ur problem bro?? I have no ilk nor do I want to solely complain. I praised Romo in my other posts.

And what leads you and Zrinkill to think the way he has always played in December and January is going to change?

Actually I agree with you totally there. I think he can as well but he will eventually run out of chances. I think with the TO monkey off his back things may change...

Seriously? This is the level of thought we're dealing with here?

Oh, I don't know, the fact that the dude can play.

so what? he could play last year and the year before last and where did that get us.

Yes I can.

Romo is as far or farther along as almost any 3rd year starter in league history.

Troy Aikman did not win a Superbowl till his 5th year starting
Payton Manning did not win a Superbowl till his 9th year starting
John Elway did not win a Superbowl till his 13th year starting
Steve Young did not Win a Superbowl till his 10th season and 4th year starting at 49'rs

Not everyone is lucky enough to get on championship teams like Tom Brady.

So what you are saying is you can't answer my question?

Even a 5 year old should be able to answer your question. If you can't yourself, I'd rather leave you befuddled so the rest of us can point and laugh.

People who bash the original poster of this thread are smacktards. Everyone should have a right to discuss/critique/praise the players on the team. I do not see where the poster slammed Romo. He stated his opinion and everyone should be allowed to have an opinion on the players and not just automatically have to praise them because they have a star on their helmet. Romo deserves praise for hanging in there today and battling back. Let's all talk again in Nov/December and see where we are. If he deserves praise, he will get it. If he deserves to be bashed for his play, he should be. Objectiveness should rule.
If, as you state, everyone should have the right to discuss/critique/praise the players on the team, should everyone not also have the right to discuss/critique posters, as well? We're only allowed to discuss players?
