Trade talks

I spent years defending Ellis' lack of production and thought he was a quality player, but that was before he started complaining so much recently. If we could get any draft pick for Ellis I would do it in a heartbeat rather than no parting gift.

Even if we don't get a "direct" draft pick, but we can move up a few spots in the 2nd round, let's say, that would also be beneficial.

I think we're going to take another OLB anyway between rounds 2-4.

So is it Ellis that is being shopped or Ellis and Crayton???

As much as I cant stand Crayton for single handedly costing us that playoff game against the G-men, if we trade him then we are very thin at WR.

We would have RW11, Austin, Hurd, and Stanbach.

That WR core is pretty thin, especially if RW11 gets hurt or just sucks like last year.

Toast Reeves had a big hand in costing us that game also.

There was plenty of blame to go around, it wasnt just one or two guys.

Romo played poorly. Henry missed an easy tackle on a play that resulted in a TD. The defense gave up a length of the field TD drive in less tha 50 seconds. Crayton never drops anything, drops a perfect throw. Playing Terry Glenn was a mistake. The officiating was horrendous. The OL, which had been great all yr melted down in the 4th qtr.

Getting rid of Ellis is the best thing that can happen to this team from a personnel standpoint.

He's personifies the weak spine that the Cowboys have had for the last decade. He's definitely not the guy you want Jay Ratliff and Demarcus Ware looking up to.

Getting anything at all for Ellis + $5M in cap space could help this team immensely.

It's finally time to part ways with Ellis, he was a good player here for years but his Complaining is starting to get old.

If someone offered a warm bucket of camel piss for Ellis right now I would be happy to see him gone. I think after watching him late last year that this is the year that he totally loses all real ability.

Re-name thread CRAP TALK

Agreed.

You can automatically dismiss any trade talk at this point because no one is going to make these types of trades 6 weeks before the draft.

It's all speculative, baseless, jibberjabber.

But as usual, dozens of people at CZ got sucked in.

Yeah, he's very limited athletically. I've actually thought this since 2007, but he somehow sacked the QB a lot using the moves he has. When you look at him in space it's just painful. He can't even change directions good. The sad part is if he goes, we have no depth.

I think Ellis will get traded on draft day, but his ability to pressure the QB will be sorely missed unless Spencer can stay healthy and develop the way we all hope. If he does, then thats a potential upgrade. If he doesnt, we'll see teams dedicate 2-3 guys to Ware week after week.

They could add a 2nd tier free agent for depth (maybe somebody like Antwan Peek) or draft someone in the middle rounds.

And Detroit is going to want a fortune for that 33rd pick.

Then Barbie Carpenter alone should be enough. :laugh2:

I was hoping we'd try and pick up someone like Peek anyway.

Who knows, maybe we will . . . .

I think that's it exactly. If they don't and they draft an OLB they like he's gone anyway. I think the job is Spencer's anyway.

Yea, some people expect us to draft Ellis' replacement this year, I thought we already did that with Spencer. I guess now, we'll have to draft Spencer's replacement as the backup.

I wonder if this is something we would do soon so that we could get that $5 mil in cap space before the draft so we can do some signings and fill some holes.

It is obvious that Dallas was going to shop Greg Ellis around and try and get something, considering he is a hit to the salary cap and he has been expressing his desire to leave. It was a stupid move by Jerry to re-sign him anyways. They should have played Spencer from the beginning, instead, they slowed down his development.

Totally.

I can't see Crayton being part of any package at this point. We're not going to get rid of his experience and such just to get rid of him.

I expect that if this happens we get maybe a 5th or 6th round value out of him -- and the trade wouldn't happen unless we drafted at least 1 and maybe 2 OLB prospects.
