Trey Lance trade is one of the worst moves Jerry has ever done

And that’s say a lot. There was absolutely no reason to make this trade at this time in the year for another QB. He’s probably not going to play at all this season. All it does is create QB controversy with the haters who actually believe that he’s better than Dak. And what’s worse, MM had no idea about the trade until it was already done. Dumb move by the ownership. Just horrible timing right before the season opener.
Joey Galloway says hi. This is the opposite of that. This is a very good trade.

Jerry does not want to pay Dak again on a big contract and this is the way he will placate fans.

Silly post-nothing dumb about this trade at all. Should not put any pressure on Dak and if he can’t handle it well then that just shows how mentally weak he is. We all know he has a bit of that anyway with his comments when he was hurt last year and his last two performances against SF in the playoffs.
In todays NFL with mobile QB’s it is nice to have a guy who can run your scout team that has a lot of mobility

Arron Rogers had a mediocre year , for him, the year before they drafted his replacement. His next 3 years were fantastic. I don't care who ur qb is competition is always a good thing.
Unfortunately, competition for Dak is a no-no for some on this board.

Perhaps the JOnes' are waking up to the fact that the insane contracts being given out to non-elite QB's are just not worth the risk. While not saying Kyler Murray is Dak Prescott, prior to his new contract and subsequent injury he was being spoken about as a better talent than Dak. However, look at the moves Arizona is now doing as they are letting go of players with what some say is an obvious attempt to 'tank' the season in hopes of a Top 3 draft pick in order to select a QB....thereby putting an end to the Murray disaster.
That example is coupled with the disaster in Denver as they traded away a lot of draft and player resources to get Russell Wilson who immediately signed a lucrative new contract only to flounder.
Desean Watson is another example of a QB getting a huge new contract and getting suspended due to his off-the-field behavior only to come back and play like garbage.
Lastly, Matthew Stafford was traded and while he propelled the Rams to a Super Bowl, his play dropped off dramatically last season coupled with injuries.

The above examples account for the NFL's #4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th highest-paid NFL QB's on an AAV basis.

With Dak currently ranking as the 10th highest-paid NFL QB, are the Jones' starting to waver on their commitment to Dak? Time will tell.

I didn’t like the move, because the only thing it did was FURTHER delay drafting Dak’s replacement.
If he actually traded for somebody good I'd be all for it. It just seems to me Lance is not going to do anything for us except keep us in the news. They're really going to have to develop him for him to even be a capable starter. The 49ers gave up on him so quickly after giving the moon to draft him and they didn't care if he went to a conference rival. That says something to me. Not only that I fear Jerry will try to waste years trying to make Lance a starter instead of going out and drafting a better QB himself.

While it remains to be seen whether or not the QB room got better, it was a prudent move, simply because we know Grier isn't the guy, and Lance will be replacing him.
It got younger with more upside and potential. Lance is 23 and even though he starts out in that 3rd spot there are better opportunities to develop and move up than with what we have now. Grier 28, Rush 29, Dak 30. Gotta start getting young blood in the QB room at some point.

It was a good trade. Nobody knows Lance's future value, though we do know his current value. A 4th round pick? That's a crapshoot, especially if we have a decent season. I'd take Lance every day over a random 4th rounder after an 11-12 win season. I think we end up trading him to some crappy team for a higher 4th round pick (or more).

I never said anything about losing a 4th round pick. My complaint is the timing of this and the fact that MM had no clue this was coming. Jerry ***** up big time Creating controversy right before opening day.
I don't see this as creating controversy. Dak's job is not in jeopardy. We'll probably end up dealing Lance for something better than we got him for.

It is possible that the 49ers acted impulsively, & irrationally in jettisoning Lance so quickly & hastily.

Bill Barnwell at ESPN offers a perspective:
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-nfl-team-trade-fits-how-49ers-got-wrong-next

"There is a big difference -- a potential franchise-altering difference -- between "Trey Lance can't play" and "Trey Lance hasn't had a chance to prove that he can play."...it's pretty clear from what I've written that I believe the latter to be true...he doesn't have much hope of getting better without more opportunities to play than he has had since being drafted in 2021."

I like the trade. 4th round pick for a 22 year old QB that was picked number 3 overall is a good risk that could pay off.

He has the talent, just needs development. 49ers seem like a bunch of drama between getting office and coaches about taking Lance and just wasn't a good situation.

Here, Lance can sit and develop without any pressure.

As far as QB controversy is concern, I think it's silly. Nobody in their right mind thinks Lance will take Daks spot. It does put pressure on Dak to perform and he seems to play his best when he has competition
He has the talent...he JUST needs the development?

There has probably been over a hundred 1st round QB busts in the last 40 years. Guys that were great in college...and just never amounted to anything in the NFL.

Each and every one of them "had the talent". But....they just weren't good NFL QBs. It comes down to....do you (you as in everyone) think it's more likely Lance will become the 2nd Steve Young (or Ryan Tannehill if you want to include him...even though he isn't even as good as Dak)..OR, do you think it's more likely he winds up like every single other Top10 QB bust, who once they didn't work out with their first team, never amounted to anything in the league?

Hey....I'm sure we could send a 2nd rounder to the Jets and get Zach Wilson if we wanted him too! He "has the talent"...in fact he has a zillion times more arm talent than Lance.

There is something to be said about a player being drafted in the Top 5 and either his personality or the coaching staff he goes to (or both) causes a bad situation (aka possible bust) to become worse. There are also cases where a QB in that situation goes elsewhere via trade and blossoms into a legitimate QB (look at Drew Brees who spent 5 seasons with the Chargers and left for the Saints or Brett Favre who was drafted by Atlanta only to be traded to GB the next season).

Time will tell what Trey Lance becomes but trading a 4th for a #3 overall QB isn't a bad trade.

And you can quit assuming the answer to your question. If you want to make a point then quit trying to make other's make it for you.
Wait what?

You were the one who mentioned his accomplishments, all i asked was what they were.

Stand by your comments, or not, its on you.

Takeaway: Absurd. And I don't recall you being this prone to hyperbole, but maybe I just have never paid that much attention to which posts are yours.

One can reasonably dislike the trade. But it's. Just. Not. THAT. Big. Of a deal.
