Trey Lance trade is one of the worst moves Jerry has ever done

I'm not a fan of trey. I'd rather use the pick on a potential starter. I don't like the price they paid. Forget that he was a 1st round pick, he shouldn't have been.

This is a great move by the FO imo. Competition for Dak, a first round talent for a 4th round pick.

And it also gives Jerry and CO negotiation leverage. I don’t know how anyone could bash this trade.

With that being said. Rush didn’t lead the cowboys to a 4-1 record. Winning and losing isn’t a QB stat. It’s a team accomplishment. If you don’t want to give Dak credit for his w/l record you can’t then give it to Rush.
The only thing I can say about that is The Dak Crusaders called for this team to tank the season.

And Rush played well enough to NOT cause us to lose. He exceeded expectations. Outstanding.

There is something to be said about a player being drafted in the Top 5 and either his personality or the coaching staff he goes to (or both) causes a bad situation (aka possible bust) to become worse. There are also cases where a QB in that situation goes elsewhere via trade and blossoms into a legitimate QB (look at Drew Brees who spent 5 seasons with the Chargers and left for the Saints or Brett Favre who was drafted by Atlanta only to be traded to GB the next season).

Time will tell what Trey Lance becomes but trading a 4th for a #3 overall QB isn't a bad trade.
Drew Brees was a Pro Bowl QB. Coming off shoulder surgery. SD still offered him a huge contract. NO offered more. No comparison.

Favre was a second round pick. GB gave Atlanta a first. No comparison.

Name 1 top 5 drafted QB that was traded after two years for substantially less draft capital that has ever gone on to do anything.

Im neutral on Dak. The timing of this is bad. MM not being consulted is bad. Giving up yet another roster spot to someone who wont play is bad.

Bad trade, worse GM/Owner

And that’s say a lot. There was absolutely no reason to make this trade at this time in the year for another QB. He’s probably not going to play at all this season. All it does is create QB controversy with the haters who actually believe that he’s better than Dak. And what’s worse, MM had no idea about the trade until it was already done. Dumb move by the ownership. Just horrible timing right before the season opener.
On the flip side, a little competition hurts no one. If Dak is a real competitor, It should make him better.
Dak's been protected too long. It's about time he felt a little pressure to improve.

This isn’t anywhere close to one of Jerry’s worst blunders. Basically, a no risk trade. If he sucks, he’ll be gone and only cost a 4th. If he’s good, he could eventually replace Dak or get flipped.

To make as much similar sense, one could use left handed or right handed as effectively for a non applicable reason, whether that applied or not. As well...

Neutral? Okay. The Chargers offered Brees a contract with little guaranteed money for fear of injuries which were suffered his second starting season as he only missed 1 game in 2004 and 2005 combined; his 1 pro bowl season was in 2004 and Favre had issues with the coaching staff (Glanville) which is why he was traded as Glanville believed his average starter could turn it around, thereby making the trade more viable (mistake).
The timing isn;t bad and Jerry saw a quick opportunity to make the trade and so decided he didn;t need to consult MM, especially given that if Dallas falters again this season MM is gone and Dak may not be far behind him.

This has been the Dallas direction taken to pursue backups for the 22 previous years...

This is far from one of the worst moves Jerry has done. If you got something in Trey Lance that you can pull out, you've either got a backup of the future or even qb of the future or you have a very valuable trade asset or someone who can be used to keep the Dak contract negotiations within reasonable levels. If you can pull anything out of Trey, you got away with a steal because the QB is the most valuable player on the field.

The main problem of this move is jerry and the FO doing this in isolation without discussing it with the coaches. This "I'll do what I want because it's my team" attitude is what has us with nearly 30 years of not getting out of the second round.

The Chargers purposely took their direction to another quarterback and New Orleans was smart enough to grab him up.

It's funny.

Some observers have been saying for years Jones is essentially a self-made figurehead. Someone who gradually made himself an integral part of a front office's group-think decision-making process. That he was strictly a general manager in name only.

Then he makes a trade like this. Pretty much on his own. Requesting little input from his front office personnel. Basically acting like an atypical figurehead...

...which is what other observers have been saying about Jerry Jones, the self-appointed general manager, who has always said the buck stops with him, all along.

lol.
Hey, Jerry is whatever suits a person's narrative!...or whatever gets that person a laugh.

And the point?

Dont compare the Trey Lance situation to Brees and Favre.

Try Ryan Leif or Johnny Manzel

I will ask one more time. What has Dak accomplished.
Some of the best offenses in the NFL? A playoff win against Tom Brady, albeit an aged one?

We've had 30 years of failure in the organization and still going because Jerry is still trying to prove the 90's success is him and not Jimmy Johnson. The QB can only do so much, and the lack of offense reared it's ugly head as many predicted it would once Amari, the best WR on the team, was traded for a bag of cheetos. The FO DID make a great adjustment this year in picking up Cooks.

The real issue however, is Jerry and son, once again making isolated moves to showcase that, "Hey look at me! I'm the reason the Cowboys are great!"

This trade is a solid one on paper. I'm just not thrilled about the actual process of the trade. Aside from that, at least we're slowly molding into something that resembles an actual football team since all of the Jerry coaching projects are no longer in the building.

No it isn’t. The highest level backup they’ve had over the years is a washed up Andy Dalton. This kid has a lot of upside, but was also a huge bust. It’s the opposite of what the Cowboys have done with the position.
