Vick accepts plea deal *merged*

I think everyone agrees with that stance.

The issue I see people discussing here is to what degree that principle is enforced, or held in high regard by the masses. Are our pets the only "innocent" animals, so it's right to kill and brutalize other animals - who are apparently guilty of something?

And once someone raises that interesting question, people light their own heads on fire and decide that the one who raised the question supports Michael Vick.

OK, so we're all guilty of some sort of brutalization of animals. Now what? We are all just Mike Vick's to a lesser degree?

That's me.

CC, I'm starting to believe that this applies to me as well the more time that I spend with my pit bull that was rescued in Virginia. Next to my wife, I have yet to find a more suitable companion than my dog. It's just that simple.

And this is coming from a man that at one time understood where the Vick apologists were coming from.

Here's to this being the LAST Mike Vick thread on this forum for a long, long, long time.

Do you really allow the law to determine your morality? Lets say for example they outlawed eating steak would you suddenly think steak eaters were evil?

You would like to think that the laws were created by the people. If such a law were passed, I'd have to say that yeah, I guess that's how it would be. On the other hand, there is no absolute in anything. Law is not perfect. Society is not perfect. Morality is not perfect and Michael Vick is far from perfect. If his inperfections were limited to passing on Herpes to women of Mexican decent or just trying to sneak bud into and out of Airports, he'd proably still be reviered by millions. Unfortunatly, the guy has proven, once and for all, that he was a crappy QB after all. How on earth can anybody as stupid as this man be intelligent enough to be a Pro QB? the answer is evident. He pisses me off because of all the things he's done to these poor animals but he pisses me off more for the fact that he had an opportunity to not only be a great player in the NFL but a land mark player for people of color all over the world and he threw it away over something as stupid as Dog Fighting.

That pisses me off Fuzzy.

If I hunt a dog, I'm a MONSTER like Vick... right? I should be hanged, like some of you are suggesting that Vick should be.

Yes.

More rope please.

Why?

5whys.

Supposedly with all the evidence that they had against him and 3 people going to testify against him...and he was looking at what years in jail.

10 months is BS.

18 months at least would have been about right.

That's my opinion.

Everyone has there own opinion about animals...but to me...I like animals more that most humans...and I would rather see a human hurt before a animal is.

People may not agree and there are always exceptions...but that's the way I feel.

and you continue to think that people shouldn't care about animals as much as we obviously do. he tortured and killed several dogs. while you don't seem to care - i suggest thereapy as needed for you to understand *you* are in the minority here.

Honestly, what is the difference between Vick drowning/electrocuting a dog and some guy blowing a deer's head off in the woods? Both the dog and deer cease to live because of actions caused by humans other than for the need to survive. Does not the deer have the same rights to life as the dog? So in that case, deer hunters need jail time too for taking the lives of innocent animals.

Do you have any idea what the precedent would be for such a plea? If 10 months is customary, then I'd say that is about right. If 2 weeks is customary, that would be about right.

18 seems just as arbitrary as 10, without knowing what others have served for the same offense.

Why should he get more time than the woman who killed her pastor husband(who is human)? She served 67 days of a 3 year sentence. Is she a POS.

one difference is that hunting deer in their environment is not the same as having a dog that is caught and wounded and chained up be electrocuted. If the dogs were hunted in the wild that would be a better analogy.

10 months is too short to me...But you're right 18 months is arbitrary...it just seemed better to me.

Personally I would have like years...but that's not going to happen with this plea.

Blame the system...not me.

To me Vick should get more that 10 months...you don't have to agree.

It will be interesting to see if judge accepts this plea deal, he just might come up with what he feels is equitable of charges.

Plus, there are still a lot of poor folks that could really use the meat. I know up here in SD, we have so many deer and they are getting so overpopulated the state is thinking about handing out free liceses if the meat goes to poor households. The Indian Rez's up here would be very greatfull for any extra meat people donate, beause people are hungry.
