Vick gets 23 months in the pokey...

Has anyone mentioned the time he has already served since voluntarily checking into the county jail 2-3 months ago. Doesn't that take the possibility of 19ish months down to 16-17 with good behavior?

As much as I believe what he did is a despicable act (& I have two full blood AKC Amstaffs that are sweethearts...these dogs get a bad wrap...), the sentence he received is a bit excessive IMO.

That is incorrect. He started to serve volutarily on November 19th, not 2-3 months ago. With his time served and with good behavior, he should be out in about 18 months.

I figured I was off a bit and appreciate the correction.

Despite the hatred, the guy will pay for what he did (a bit excessive payment IMO) and be back in the NFL. BOOK IT!

According to ESPN, the 'excessive' part (23 months as opposed to 12-18) was a function of Vick's actions since pleading guilty. In other words, Vick's got nobody to blame but himself for any 'excess' in the sentence.

this is ironic considering...

Vick has no one but himself to blame. And no, it wasn't excessive. In fact, given his lies to the court and failing court mandated drug test, I'd say he got off relatively light.

Why can't a G just be a G without all the fuss? :D (j/k of course...)

That will pretty much put an end to his NFL career. Vick only has himself to blame

I would not count on it. When the "fat Alki Smith with an arm" in Oakland bombs out you just know that too old Al will give the biggest outlaw in the NFL a call.

Yes, Vick is getting what he deserves but I won't dog pile on the guy.

His career is finished and he may even be finished financially as well.

If he is truly contrite, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a second chance, even though that is very slim.

Mick, the judge gave Vick a stiffer sentence than was anticipated precisely because he (the judge) was convinced that Vick was NOT "contrite"...

Yes David we know you hate the guy :D

How could you NOT hate the guy??

Unless, of course, your idea of fun is setting dogs to kill each other...

I don't think that he is a "thug" because he was fighting dogs. He doesn't fit my definition of a thug.

Then you need to redefine the word...

I agree that he was stupid for being involved in that nonsense.

Man, he's WAAAAAAY beyond just "stupid"... he's sadistic, and sociopathic, and generally a piece of garbage...

Anyway, it's not being unrealistic to expect 12-18 months when that is what the DA recommended. The state is just piling on.

That's what happens to you when you flunk a drug test when you're awaiting sentencing... judges tend to take a VERY dim view of that sort of thing... that judge is my hero... now I can only hope that the state judge who tries him will be even harder on that LOSER...

But in play was our mania for dogs (though the dogs were bred to kill themselves).

Well, that's just IGNORANT...

You're arguing that because Vick bred those dogs to "kill themselves", that makes it acceptable for him to facilitate such killing??

Hey, Marines are trained to kill too, how 'bout we open a series of Colosseums across the country, and have them fight each other to the death?? You know, a REAL "American Gladiators"... think of the pay per view possibilities!!! We can all go online to issue a thumbs up or thumbs down...

You might want to actually visit a prison before discussing the do's and dont's of a prison. Watching a silly documentary will not get you ANY answers of how one is to survive in hell. What you see on TV is nothing like what really goes on when the camera is off.

Cry me a river for poor, persecuted Michael Vick... whatever happens to him in prison, he deserves...

I personally think this is BS, yes he did wrong in killing animals, but 2 years of a humans life worth a dogs life, i think is ridiculous how they are taking 2 years of his life over some animals.

OK, if you're ever killed, I sure do hope I get to serve on the jury... I'll hold out for justifiable homicide...

We're not talking about A dog's life here, we're talking about dozens of dogs' lives... we're talking about serial sadism here...

Again I'll repeat my theory that those who defend Michael Vick tend to be those who have attended, and enjoyed, dog fights...
