Was Frederick Worth a First Round Pick?

Read somewhere that Floyd wasn't considered a starter in Minnesota and Frazier was quoted as saying he was at the end of their DT rotation.

Floyd was running 3rd string on Saturday behind Kevin Williams and Christian Ballard. What little he played, it looked like that's where he belonged.

Yes or no?

Why or why not?

This is an easy question to answer for me. I'm just interested in hearing what other fans think about Frederick .

So far, he looks like a sure winner for the Cowboys. The argument that he would have been available in the second or third round is hollow, since no one knows when another team would have drafted him. The Cowboys have certainly upgraded their offensive line, and that alone is the deciding factor.

I did wonder at the time if he might have been there in the second, but it only takes one team to like him so I think Dallas was probably in the right to go ahead and grab him.

I didn't like the actual trade at the time value-wise, but that wasn't Frederick's fault and if Dallas ends up with a quality starting Center and future starting WR out of it, then it would be hard to complain.

He absolutely was worth his draft slot. What he will bring to this team from day one is worth a kings ransom. Rock in the middle, will hold the point,...wont be pushed around.

I'll tell you how bad things have been for us in recent years. In the second Giants game I saw something that was VERY telling. Happened in the second half I believe. It was third and less than a yard,...in fact it was a half a yard.........18 friggin inches! LOL At the snap of the ball the Giants M.LB instantly bailed and dropped back into coverage. He,..the Giants,...heck the whole dang world just KNEW that our interior was sooooooooooo lame that it couldnt even be trusted to get 18 INCHES of push. THAT is pathetic.

This wont happen anymore. This season we will be able to throw the rock because we WANT to,...not because we HAVE to. HUGE huge difference.

The whiners convienently forget how fast the O linemen were going at that point in the draft. No one can tell when such a run is going to end- so realistically the Boys had no real choice in the matter.

I think it was the right pick, he guy has the physical tools, plays with a bit of a mean streak and is a very intelligent player. He comes out of a school who has produced quality OL players and I think Frederick fits that mold of Wis OL players.
In terms of need, there is no doubt he also fills a need for Dallas.

Do I think a quality NFL starting center is worth a 1st round pick? Sure.

Whether he's quality or not is yet to be determined, I'm not making any proclamations based on 2 preseason games, but so far, so good.

A lot of people will probably tie Williams to the Frederick pick, but I think Frederick needs to stand on his own.

Bingo - Give the Count a bottle of A positive.

First round center - you bet.

This guy - wait and see.

Other recent 1st round centers were the Pouncey brothers and I don't see those guys being in a higher class than Frederick.

Based on what, exactly?

I might agree, but surely need more than two pre-season games.

He was easily worth an r1 pick.

He would have been a reach at 18 but but he was very much needed on this club.
Overall this was a case of good maneuvering by Dallas.
He can play arguably the two weakest position on the roster in OC and OG.

Only negative is he can't also play safety.

The problem with thinking Frederick would be there in the 2nd is the fact no one expected 8 OL players to go in the 1st rd before Frederick was even selected. There was an early run on OL players and playing the guessing and hoping game to address a big need was too big of a risk. Dallas had the chance to upgrade the OL they did and in the process was also able to add depth to the WR position.

The question isn't about Frederick, we needed a center and lineman were flying off the board. I don't remember the Packers center's name but Jerry got cute and lost out on him, this time he did the right thing. Whether he pans out or not waits to be seen but he will IMO be better than what we have so yes it was a good pick. Now if you want to talk about a wasted pick... Gavin Escobar come on down!

Yes.

It was a bad draft class. The better options were to go the conservative route and to draft positions like guard and center. Other teams thought the same thing with the inordinate amount of guards being drafted. By drafting him we got a guy that could play either center or guard immediately which allowed us some flexibility if other linemen got injured. He fits the scheme as well.

Ah railed agin Frederick the giant. At the time (and I had never heard of him and I doubt that many of yew had either) the draft board "experts" had him in the 3rd round or late 2nd.
Ah figured it was just Jerra being Jerra and wanting to seem like he know football and personnel.

Time will tell.

I hope Frederick proves me wrong. But all indications (now) are that Frederick could have been had in the 3rd round and we could have picked immediate hep for old man Kiffin.

Again, what is done is done. Let us all rally behind Frederick's big behind.

It's impossible to say only two preseason games in. Let's revisit this question at the end of the season (though it will still be too early then too). He's off to a hell of a start though, just don't want to see him at OG though.

If you hadn't heard of Frederick, the number one rated center, then you didn't follow the draft that closely. He was discussed pretty extensively on this board.

Oh, and stop with the third round nonsense. I can't remember the highest rated center ever lasting past the second. They are usually selected in the mid-first to mid-second, and this draft had a top-heavy run on linemen.
