It is private.

It is not something that anybody needs to know, .. so why feel that you have to stand on a soap box and proclaim it.

I don't get it.

Do what you want to do, .. but be discreet about it, the way most other people do.

Are you listening or reading this thread? He came out because if he did not, someone else would!

That is the bad thing about all of this--the perception of his value before and after his announcement.

The reality is that he was not considered a first round type, and struggled when worked out at OLB at the Senior Bowl. This was as of several weeks ago, he was considered a one-trick pony who lacked the ability for position flexibility to fit 3-4 teams. All in all, an undersized pass rusher who might be strictly a 3rd down specialist.

But I think there will be the perception that if and when he does go later in the draft that teams downgraded him specifically because of his orientation.

Unfortunately, just get prepared for that backlash, whether it is truly founded or not.

Your words may be prophetic.

Loong exhale....

It is NOT private if someone ELSE is going to go public with it.

THAT is the point you seem to be missing in this case.

He wanted to let others know on his own terms before someone ELSE made it public..NOT PRIVATE.

He is not going on a soap box like you seem to keep wanting to indicate.

He told his team mates before the season. He nor his team mates were making a big deal of it and they kept it to themselves.

However someone was going to bring it up and he had heard some scouts already asking about it so he decided to go ahead and say it to get it out of the way before others tried to use it against him.

People will claim he did it for publicity and the attention but if that was the case he would have said it publicly the same time he told his team mates.

Smart move. he may cost himself some money in the draft, but he'll exponentially increase his off the field income stream being the first.

Yesterday the news broke that Missouri player Micheal Sam was openly gay. Today we analyze if the Cowboys would draft him.

First who is Michael Sam is a defensive end for the was Co-SEC Defensive Player of year along with Alabama's C.J. Mosley. Sam lead the SEC this season in sacks per game (0.81) and tackles for loss per game (1.38). He has posted 11.5 sacks on the season and has logged 18.0 tackles for loss on the year.

Sam is also touted to be a late 3rd to early 4th round pick. This is all pre-combine and as I have stated many times nothing means anything until after the combine.

Missouri played a 4-3 scheme, it's really a 4-2-5 and Sam still holds the spot down at defensive end. It has been said that Sam can play a 3-4 defensive end as well. This is where a lot of team would like to put him.

The former Missouri football All-American, the most decorated defensive player in America's most decorated football conference, revealed his sexual orientation in interviews with the New York Times and ESPN.

To a good 'ol WV boy, ... that is soap box.

He came out because it was already known among teammates, there were rumors spreading in league front offices, and scouts had been asking if he had a girlfriend. So he got ahead of it. NFL scouts weren't exactly being discreet about it, but who gives a crap anyway.

I'd be cool with drafting him but like someone else said he projects as a 3-4 OLB so not a good scheme fit.

Personally, the fact that he's handling a delicate issue with bravery and class moves him up on my draft board. Assuming I had a need for a player of his type in the first place. I'm really glad to see this.

If he can play and help your team win you draft him. Bottom line.

Bottom line, that is all there should be to it, .. but that all changed when he went to the NY Times and ESPN and proclaimed he was gay.
If you want to be gay, be gay, .. you don't have to have a press conference about it.

And bravery, that is not bravery.

Our fireman hear the alarm at 5:00 am on a 14 degree day, and rush out and into a house and save 7 members of a family in it, .. that's bravery.
Our policeman, Drug Task Force, ATF, undercover cops, etc. that risk their life every day to make our towns a little safer, .. that's bravery.
Or someone that jumps out at an accident and pulls someone from a burning car, .. that's bravery.
Or someone else jumps into a car that plunged into a lake and pulls two little boys out to safety, .. that's bravery.
Our military wake up every day in another country where people want to kill them, .. now that is bravery.

As has been pointed out to you several times already, he made the announcement himself because others were going to do it anyway. It's far better to control the conversation yourself. It also tells teams interested in him that he's not afraid of the controversy, and if they are, they can pass him by.

Oh and some of those policemen and firemen and accident site heroes and military -- they're gay. And that fact makes them no more or less brave. It's who they are, and they go about their professional lives or give aid when needed without a thought about their orientation.

My guess.....Either Jets 3rd round or Patriots 3rd round

Same-sex marriage is legally recognized in the states Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island

And if either team wanted to make a statement supporting their states choice....then this would be their chance.

Comments?

Can you imagine the hecklers behind the Cowboy bench? To say it would be distarating is an understatement.

Since when is a person's sexuality private, and since when are people discreet about it? I'm constantly seeing shots of players' wives and girlfriends in the stands. I hear about players' weddings, who's dating who, etc., all the time. I see them with their wives and kids wishing us all a happy Thanksgiving. If that's not a public announcement of a person's sexual orientation, I don't know what is.

If he can help this team, great, .. nobody needs to know about his sexuality.

It shouldn't be an issue, but to many people it is.

I'm sure he's letting people know before "speculation" starts.

I’ve no problem either way.

Hopefully he can get on playing football without the distractions.
