Why are we in a rush to sign Dak?

Because increasing his salary is not conducive to keeping and fielding a half way competitive team around him, especially when he himself elevates nothing around him.
Then let him go lol. I see a scenario of letting him walk. I see a scenario of overpaying for him. I do not see one where a guy in the prime of his career says he's going to take a pay cu because the GM doesn't know how to structure his contract to do so. Its not these guys job to Stephens' job for him.

That's fine. Don't be surprised to see Dak walk after this or next year. It's all on Dak now.

Not really. You are ignoring the fact that Dak tried to change his game last season. From the beginning, a common and oft repeated criticism was that Dak threw cautiously and needed to have the receiver wide open. He clearly tried to respond to that and threw much more aggressively at times.

The problem is he is not built for that mentally so we got what we got from him. The combination of his "hunters accuracy" and his cautious attitude will make it very difficult for him to ever be the aggressive playmaker he was trying to be.
He made that change in the back half of 2018.

I see no scenario of him walking. I could see them cutting him at some point especially if he doesn't get any further in the playoffs. But I do not see a scenario where they come to him and tell him to take a pay cut lol. He would be the first guy in Cowboys history to do such lol. Even Jalen Hurts didn't take a pay cut and he's only had 1 good year in the NFL.

Yeah, but Hurts went to a SB, Dak? Nothing. You just want him here no matter what, win or lose, as long as you get to stare at him during his crappy games. I have your number.

Listen to the records predicted to the question at 8:42. What would the prediction be if it were another NFL QB that you really trusted? We all know who those QB's are. If we are predicting 1-3 or 2-2, what in the hell does that say about confidence in Dak's ability to go on a playoff run against the better teams? Especially if it's the Wild Card route. I think their answers SPEAK VOLUMES about the actual situation we are in, which is Booger and Chuckles inability to switch gears on the fly. I would call it paralysis by analysis, but that would be incorrect....there is zero analysis going on....only paralysis due to their own lack of confidence in making Howie Roseman type decisions. Signing Dak prior to letting 2023 run its course, would be asinine beyond belief.

The only reason you wait is if you're not going to resign him.

If he's I your future plans it's most cost efficient to get it done sooner rather than later.

See Dak's last deal.

Jalen Hurts barely got his first big pay. Dak already got his big paid contract 2 years ago. There is a difference. Just wait and see. The Cowboys are going to ask Dak for a discount if he plays well enough in 2023 but not good enough to reach a championship game but wants to remain a Cowboy going forward. If Dak refuses, get ready to see get done to him as was done to Zeke.

Well if he "plays well enough" then yeah they may ask him to take a cut. I'm speaking on him playing well. If he plays poorly then yeah at that point he may be on the verge of getting cut and quite honestly I don't even understand the point in asking for a pay cut if he's proven once again he's not good enough. I'd just let him walk.

If he does walk and gets on another team, I'm sure you will follow him. "If he plays poorly"...where the hell you been!

QB's dont go on playoff runs, teams do.

We have NO ONE else and the longer we wait the more expensive its going to be.

I disagree.

If Dak plays well in 2023 but refuses to give the team a big discount on an extension, you bite the bullet and draft his replacement in the 1st or 2nd round of the 2024 Draft. Then let the rookie QB learn under Dak throughout the 2024 season as you let Dak's current contract expire. It will be super costly ($60+ million) to get out of that contract, but it's better than continuing to overpay, affect your salary cap going forward, and be held hostage at the same time.
I'm all for it but what I'm saying is the Joneses don't have the stones to walk away. I wouldn't give him another contract unless it's below market value.
