WOW, did you zoners hear Nate Newton yesterday on Pat McQuistan?

So there's about 4 OL on our team that can't step up if a starter goes down yet we kept 11 of them......

for the future

we're trying to make an extended run here

About sums it up......

:banghead:

On top of which, yes he has been practicing at different spots but that's because he's also not shining on 1 particular spot. He's not effective in either otherwise they'd focus him on at least backing up a specific spot on the line. Listen Demarcus ware came in this league as a Tweener, yes he was dafted 11th overall, but there was no question where he was going to play and there is no questions he should always play there. Lets look at Ratliff, just as late a pick, could play end because he can just outright play on the DL but you know he's playing DT/NT and if he does play DE it's like I said earlier because he belongs on that line, he's a player anywhere on that line. McQ needs to be history. Not a player.

'Now they do' - in McQ's case after two years, and Marten one and a half - and the team can't trust either one to contribute anything or anywhere.

How long does a team wait?

Three years?

When your 'project' is a restricted free agent who can take what he's learned to his next team?

I'm not even looking for a star, I'm just looking for a shred of capability.

yeah, you typically give rookies 3 years

but McQ wasn't an ordinary rookie, he played 2 years at Weber State, his expectations are a little different

also remember that these young guys are learning under a new coach

Plain and simple. 5 years from now, no one will ever say Pat McQ was a successful starter and it would not surprise me if he never starts a game period. I'd be more shocked if he would start a game from this point on. Martin Grammatica has more push than McQ.

see what I mean about unrealistic expectations?

That I definitely agree with.

And I would add that the change in coach and scheme is part of the problem.

These guys were 'finesse linemen' drafted for a Parcells zone blocking style O-line.

They're ill-suited for Houck's 'power line'.

Much like Holland was ill-suited for Denver's scheme, most of the current backups are ill-suited to ours right now.

if most of them were, I doubt we'd be keeping 11 linemen

I think the team is as worried about bringing in someone who doesn't know the scheme as much as replacing someone who can't play.

I'm absolutely shocked that a stiff like Marten is still on this team.

Maybe they'll make another move once Holland is up to speed?

I can hope...

be realistic 1st

I am being realistic are you. I'm saying I don't care how little football experience he has or what type of small school he went to. Its just these projects are getting a bit out of hand. We don't need some one at his skill level that could some day maybe blossom into a decent player. We need someone that shows it and could be counted on during times of injury. 4 of our backs up don't supply that. It's not just at the O line position.

I'm sorry that you think we have to have, or are able to have, the position where we're stacked everywhere on the team

and McQ wouldn't start at OG in case of injury, Proctor is starting at LG in Kosier's absence for a bit, and Berger would probably be 1st in line at RG, and Montrae Holland will probably take over at LG soon, Free is the backup LT, Proctor at C

Who asking for stacked?

I'd settle for not being a glaring weakness.

And McQuistan and Marten are backing up?

That's right - nowhere because they're dead weight.

May as well sign a kickoff specialist - at least he'd contribute something.

And maybe cover for Read's pathetic special teams.

you're gonna have projects as backups sometimes

but how do you suggest we improve those weaknesses? who would we replace them w/?

we did

only loss was a corner who was going to be inactive

I recommended Shane Olivea and Toniu Fonoti, two former 'Houck guys'. Feel free to pick them to pieces.

Bob Sacamano said:

Yeah, I've seen both of their 'work' there.

The term 'swinging gate' springs to mind.

But don't worry, if Colombo should get hurt, Marten will quickly become a guard again.

Yeah, replaced by a lesser corner who is going to be inactive.

2 castoffs? nice work

it seems that Olivea wasn't terribly impressive in San Diego before he got injured and suspended, and got released by the Giants

that's 2 cuts in 2 years

what else did you expect from young players?

stay on topic, Ogelsby cut because we signed Keith Davis

That's the best criticism you've got?

I'm disappointed.

I guess we should bounce all of those other 'castoffs' we've acquired too?

Bob Sacamano said:

How about a shred of the ability to play? How about looking capable? How about not having to switch positions when the one you're currently playing suddenly opens up? Is that too much to ask?

Bob Sacamano said:
at least that lesser corner has a better chance of seeing the field because of his special team's play

Like Reeves and Jones before him. They were 'special teams guys' too.

Too bad they 'saw the field' more than anyone liked...

look at the edit

and Fonoti hasn't stuck w/ a team for more than 2 years, yet you want him?? his former coach obviousy doesn't even want him

no, what's too much to ask is you being patient and realistic

I can't ask much of the guy who thinks that Matt Jones over Patrick Crayton anyways

they saw the field as corners and special teamers

Oglesby, not so much
