stasheroo;2230377 said:'Now they do' - in McQ's case after two years, and Marten one and a half - and the team can't trust either one to contribute anything or anywhere.
How long does a team wait?
Three years?
When your 'project' is a restricted free agent who can take what he's learned to his next team?
I'm not even looking for a star, I'm just looking for a shred of capability.
AKATheRake;2230393 said:Plain and simple. 5 years from now, no one will ever say Pat McQ was a successful starter and it would not surprise me if he never starts a game period. I'd be more shocked if he would start a game from this point on. Martin Grammatica has more push than McQ.
Bob Sacamano;2230383 said:yeah, you typically give rookies 3 years
but McQ wasn't an ordinary rookie, he played 2 years at Weber State, his expectations are a little different
also remember that these young guys are learning under a new coach
stasheroo;2230404 said:That I definitely agree with.
And I would add that the change in coach and scheme is part of the problem.
These guys were 'finesse linemen' drafted for a Parcells zone blocking style O-line.
They're ill-suited for Houck's 'power line'.
Much like Holland was ill-suited for Denver's scheme, most of the current backups are ill-suited to ours right now.
Bob Sacamano;2230408 said:if most of them were, I doubt we'd be keeping 11 linemen

Bob Sacamano;2230428 said:be realistic 1st
DaBoys4Life;2230446 said:I am being realistic are you. I'm saying I don't care how little football experience he has or what type of small school he went to. Its just these projects are getting a bit out of hand. We don't need some one at his skill level that could some day maybe blossom into a decent player. We need someone that shows it and could be counted on during times of injury. 4 of our backs up don't supply that. It's not just at the O line position.
Bob Sacamano;2230466 said:I'm sorry that you think we have to have, or are able to have, the position where we're stacked everywhere on the team
and McQ wouldn't start at OG in case of injury, Proctor is starting at LG in Kosier's absence for a bit, and Berger would probably be 1st in line at RG, and Montrae Holland will probably take over at LG soon, Free is the backup LT, Proctor at C
stasheroo;2230474 said:Who asking for stacked?
I'd settle for not being a glaring weakness.
stasheroo said:And McQuistan and Marten are backing up?
That's right - nowhere because they're dead weight.
stasheroo said:May as well sign a kickoff specialist - at least he'd contribute something.
And maybe cover for Read's pathetic special teams.
Bob Sacamano;2230488 said:how do you suggest we improve those weaknesses? who would we replace them w/?

Bob Sacamano said:we did
only loss was a corner who was going to be inactive
stasheroo;2230507 said:I recommended Shane Olivea and Toniu Fonoti, two former 'Houck guys'. Feel free to pick them to pieces.
stasheroo said:Yeah, I've seen both of their 'work' there.
The term 'swinging gate' springs to mind.
But don't worry, if Colombo should get hurt, Marten will quickly become a guard again.
stasheroo said:Yeah, replaced by a lesser corner who is going to be inactive.
Bob Sacamano;2230521 said:2 castoffs? nice work
Bob Sacamano said:what else did you expect from young players?
Bob Sacamano said:at least that lesser corner has a better chance of seeing the field because of his special team's play
stasheroo;2230530 said:That's the best criticism you've got?
I'm disappointed.
I guess we should bounce all of those other 'castoffs' we've acquired too?
stasheroo said:How about a shred of the ability to play? How about looking capable? How about not having to switch positions when the one you're currently playing suddenly opens up? Is that too much to ask?
stasheroo said:Like Reeves and Jones before him. They were 'special teams guys' too.
Too bad they 'saw the field' more than anyone liked...
