Gathers bump Escobar?

Does Gathers bump Escobar off of the roster? At this point Escobar is ONLY a red zone threat and can't block for ****. Gathers is bigger, stronger and is probably a better red zone threat than Escobar without even playing for the last 10 years. He clearly has the mass to block. So it is POSSIBLE Escobar gets cut eventually if the roster spot comes down to him or Gathers.

I expect Escobar to be on the pup list to start the season. That might be a good thing for him in this case. Discuss?

I know Gathers is a VERY raw project. Very Raw!!! But Escobar really is a very one dimensional player who really doesn't see the field very much!

I don't agree. I think they made him into a more traditional TE and I believe that was a mistake. I would have worked on his speed and kept him a hybrid. IMO they have misused him. However they may want him to become the heir to Witten....whenever that is.

Escobar's done. Achilles injury, in the last year of his deal. Never more than 9 catches in a season, and a mediocre blocker. Unless somehow he is ready for training camp, I bet we don't ever see him in a Cowboys uniform.

Wait who is this all pro TE Gathers that you talk about? Never heard of him and what makes you think that he's going to bump Escobar?

If he can block then he might bump Hanna of the roster.
Escobar is fast and can make plays down the field, so ideally Rico & Gavin would make the more dangerous pairing. If Gathers shows that he can run routes and catch passes consistently, then he easily makes the team because of bis size.

How raw is raw....You do realize Gathers has not played football since middle school (age 13)......only played basketball at Baylor

I believe Gathers makes the initial 53 and when/if Escobar is ready then Rico will be cut. He is much more likely to make it to the PS in OCT or NOV.

Gathers has the size to be a blocking machine. Whether or not he develops the ability to do that is yet to be determined. I don't think has much to offer in the getting seperation and pass catching arena.
