Does Jaylon Smith practice this week?

I think the referenced article is being misinterpreted (it was actually poorly worded in trying to relay the NFI rule). Smith is on the "Active NFI" list which means the player is not allowed to practice for the first six weeks of the season. At the end of that six week window, teams have an additional six week window (now at 12 weeks, total) during which a player can return to practice (at any point during that six week window). Once the player starts practicing with the team, the team has an additional three week window (total window now as long as 15 weeks) to determine whether to activate the player, release him, or IR him.
In a nutshell, the team now has three more weeks (Nov 27, I believe) before they must make a decision to practice him or IR him. If they decide to practice him, they'll have three more weeks to decide what to do with him for the season. Assuming the team takes the max time allowed, he will be activated or IR'd at week 15.

Poorly is being kind. Flat *** wrong seems more fitting.

He can practice and all they will need to say is he is limited...doing work on the sidelines.
I don't think he has to be a full participant.

If he is off to the side, with the trainers, then he is not 'practicing.' He needs to be getting in line with his teammates doing drills or in team stuff to be considered 'practicing.'

He's said off to the side they have him doing LB drills as part of his 'training.'

Let's just say that Jaylon and I will play the same number of games for the Cowboys this year. Of course, he gets paid and I don't, but that's not the question.

I am hoping he comes back full strength next year with a full training camp under his belt and ready to lead this Cowboys D. :star:

so nerve rejuvenation is not complete per Dr. Jerry

looks like no play time this year

I think that pretty close to correct. Far better than what the article lays out anyway. I'm pretty sure the window to have him start practicing is 5 weeks though. So subtract one week from all of the above and we are good.

According to Wikipedia:
"A player who finishes the preseason still on the NFI list can then be placed on the regular-season NFI list. Such players must sit out the first six weeks of the regular season. At that point, teams have a five-week window in which to allow the player to begin practicing; from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional 21-day window in which to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster. If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the NFI list for the remainder of the season."

Not....they have 2 more weeks to decide to let him practice

After his 1st practice they have 21 days to activate him to the roster or put him on the IR

This seems to be true, at least according to this from the NFL website. This is what I was looking for earlier.

Mid-October: Beginning on the sixth calendar day prior to a club's seventh regular season game (including any bye week) and continuing through the day after the conclusion of the 11th regular season weekend, clubs are permitted to begin practicing players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform and Reserve/Non-Football Injury or Illness for a period not to exceed 21 days. Players may be activated during the 21-day practice period, or prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day after the conclusion of the 21-day period, provided that no player may be activated to participate in a Week 6 game.

At any time after six weeks have elapsed since a player was placed on Reserve/Injured or Reserve/Non-Football Injury/Illness, each club is permitted to designate one player for return from either list to the club's 53-player Active/Inactive List.

The player who is "Designated For Return" must have suffered a major football-related or non-football-related injury after reporting to training camp and must have been placed on the applicable Reserve List after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day after the final roster reduction

So it appears that the Cowboys have until the Ravens game to have Smith start practicing. If he isn't officially practicing by that point, the Cowboys will have to IR him.

So it's basically a done deal... His season is over.

Not at all....they can have him start practice on Nov 22nd
Then they would have 3 weeks to decide to add him to the roster for the last 3 weeks and playoffs

That is 5 more weeks before they have to pull the cord on this season

You are correct. My initial source said 6 weeks and I went with it. Found a short Time later that it was 5 weeks. Thanks for the correct info, though. I hate to be the spreader of inaccurate info.

Dear mods, consistent with the no new Zeke accusation threads without proof, now that we know what the reinstatement process is, can we please ban all Jaylon threads that don't include verifiable evidence of medical eligibility to play or not play this season.

Does he still have drop toe?
