Oh, how so?

What part of "down the line" doesn't impart the idea of faith in the long term?

Hasn't Zorn figured it out. There is no "down the line" for him. He will get run off or quit before "down the line" gets here. Snyder doesn't see things in terms of "down the line". Its either now or never.

Here's some more fodder - a Q&A with Peter King who was at Commanders Camp today:

Okay. Finally: tell us something you saw at camp today that’s not going to make it into your Postcard From Camp, but that Commanders fans would want to know.
I’ll tell you something that IS going to make it into my postcard: I thought Jason Campbell had one of the best camp practices I’ve ever seen a quarterback have.
Really!
I mean, if he had four balls hit the ground in two hours, I’ll be surprised. I mean, the touch on this passes, his accuracy downfield, I was highly, highly impressed.
Now, I’ve seen him a few times over the years, and I’ve thought he’s okay, but I never saw him like I saw him today.
Do you think it’s Coach Zorn? What do you think it is?

think it’s maturation, I think it’s fourth year in the NFL, I think it’s a lot of things. Now, you know what I like about him? He could have sat there with his eight different offensive systems in the last nine years of his football life and he could’ve said, “Woe is me, I am so sick of this crap, I’m going to go buy my own team so I can run the offense that I would want to run.”
But all he did was – evidently he MUST have – put his nose to the grindstone and learned another offense.
Now, you always, always hesitate [to judge] when there’s nobody rushing. I mean, one of the best camp practices I saw last year was Rex Grossman and I have become convinced now that Grossman is great when he knows he’s not going to get hit. And he still MIGHT be great. But I saw him two practices last year, he was fantastic, and then he was Rex Grossman when the lights came on. So we’ll see about Jason Campbell.
But, if I’m a Commanders fan watching this practice today, I go home and I’m really excited.

I didn't bold anything. The bolded parts are the questions, the rest is King's answer. So :lmao2: yourself.

Campbell doesn't need to prove himself against live action. We have coach Zorn throwing exercise balls and blocking pads at him during the drills.:D

Peter king saw him throw well in 1 practice, I saw him throw poorly in about 20 games.

He throws well...no doubt. I have no doubt he was impressive.

But here's the knock on Campbell.

1. Doesn't protect the ball well when he's hit.

2. Holds the ball too long....and has a big, slow windup.

Now, the slow windup thing is what hurts him IMO. So it would be hard to see how much he's improved until he sees live action.

Of course, the WCO helps the QB let loose of the ball quicker...assuming they make quick reads.

And after 20 games he was 320/568 for 3366 yds 14tds and 31ints. Obviously the only reason he stuck around is that the Cowboys knew he had potential to be great.

Troy Aikman, #1 overall pick

Jason Campbell, 29th overall, and suprise one at that...

In Carter's only season as a staring QB, he threw 57.8% 3300 yards 17 TDs to 21 INTs, when the division wasn't nearly what it is now.

Campbell was on pace to surpass him in just about every category, facing much tougher competition last year. 60% passing, 2700 yards, 12 TD, 11 INT in 13 games.

Carter was out of the league a year later -- and don't tell me it was b/c of the drug charges. We've seen time and time again that players are give upteen chances -- usually with the Cowboys -- given they have the talent. Carter didn't. He played in 7 games with the Jets and was done.

I'll make a bet with anyone here who wants to take it. Injuries aside -- if Campbell is out of the league next year for performance issues, I will never post again here. The Mods can ban me. If not, you leave. Banned. Any takers?

:lmao2: I don't see how having less passing yards and TDs is out-performing anyone....

and Campbell doesn't have to be out of the league in a year to be Quincy Carter, just a QB w/ a strong arm who can't throw mid-range passes w/ any accuracy

Yep Romo is a special talent -- a complete anomaly (although I want to see him without TO :D)

However most QBs take time to develop.

some are just born w/ that ability upstairs, I dont' think Campbell has it, he's too lackadaisel (SP) IMO

Nobody will care, but this will make it more fun

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/07/25/Commanders.postcard/index.html

Three Observations

1. Campbell is impressing with his accuracy. The Zorn Administration already is wowed by the fact that the fourth-year quarterback from Auburn left the facility for about five minutes all offseason -- and when he did, it was to fish on Brett Favre's property in Mississippi. But I'm guessing his passes hit the ground about four times in two hours Friday morning. What a display of deft downfield touch and accuracy. Now, this comes with no one hitting him, obviously. But Campbell had a superb practice, and when I asked him about it, he was totally matter-of-fact. "That's how I have to play every day,'' he said.

Campbell has never had a problem looking good throwing a deep ball

it's doing it under duress

and how many of those completions were the WR adjusting to make the play?

it's reading a rush

The first time I really saw JC play was in the Sugar Bowl in January of 2005 against Virginia Tech. The VT defense shut down Cadilliac and Ronnie Brown and had consistent pressure on JC. His ability to move in the pocket and avoid the rush is what helped Auburn win that game.

In 2006, his pocket presence was very solid as you could see him move real well in the pocket.

I'd say that skill got worse as the 2007 season went along and the o-line kept falling apart week by week

He had no trouble sliding and moving around the pocket the first 5 games of the season. In the Green Bay game the backups on the o-line started to fall apart (Wade was brought back in injured to finish the game at tackle after Heyer was injured in that game) and you could see he started to panic much more in the pocket, with his worst performance being against NE

His problem last season was actually hitting the deep ball, he had some nice ones against the 'Phins and Giants, but missed crucial ones against Philly (would have ended the game and he'd have had a near 300 yard game) and the Jets in overtime

Work in progress, flashes of brilliances, flashes of poor play, and overall just an average year for him, with him blowing 2 games at the end

I am hoping that with a healthy o-line and more targets to throw to, it'll improve his game. Not having a healthy o-line, healthy Moss nor healthy Portis clearly had an impact. Which QB wouldn't be impacted by that?

his career has been average up to this point

you have to admit that he's not accurate at all

I don't know how solid his pocket presence has really been, your line has been good, JC seem to hang around in the pocket alot, looking for that deep ball

I'd say improving from a 55 percent completion percentage to 60 percent from 2006 to 2007 shows an upward trend in that category

Is he Dan Marino or Troy Aikman accurate yet? Na. But I think he'll get to the point where he'll be effective. Completing 60 percent of his passes with the mess that last year's offense was gives me some hope right there

But yes, his career has been very average at this point, with some good games, and some awful decisions

Who knows, he could be a Drew Brees, suddenly the light turns on. Or, as this board hopes and prays, a Quincey Carter without the drugs ;)
