Weren't the Colts against the Jets at one point? After the fired up Cowboys knocked the wind out of their sails initially, you've got to think the Saints kinda conceded the game and they still nearly came back on Dallas.

Yeah, pretty sure they started Curtis Painter and all backups against the Jets with the intention to lose the game. Get real, they thought they could play the starters a little, get a lead and hold on.

Let me know when you catch up to 7 weeks ago. Prior to the game they made their intentions known to pull the starters. When they did, they were still winning. They lost the lead and never re-inserted the starters.

If you look at the strength and weakness of all the teams out there I would agree with Jimmy that Dallas has a good chance at reaching the SB. We are not the only team with a real shot at it but clearly have a better chance than many others out there.

That's absolutely not true. In fact, I'm 99% sure you can't find an article that states they proclaimed they'd pull their starters before the game. If you can find a credible article that states it, give me some time off from this site or whatever.

You're telling me the Indianapolis starters were never told they were going to be pulled? That you never saw the articles where this move was sanctioned by Irsay and Pollian?

It was sanctioned, but they never stated that they were going to do it before the game. It was a decision they made during the game. All you've got to do is prove that they stated they would pull the starters BEFORE the game started and I'm done, but we both know I'm right.

This article was posted the day of the game, right after it.

Notice the very first line about the Colts "kept saying" the perfect season did not matter to them. It should be a clue to you that they were already talking about that prior to the game for this reporter to know this.

So by your thinking, none of the pregame shows mentioned the starters not playing the full game? Hilarious.

Here is an article dated December 3rd saying the Colts were going to sit starters as soon as they clinched home field. Uh, that is a full 3 weeks and 3 days before they actually did it.

Then there is this article that has the colts owner 12 days before the Colts lost saying they were probably going to rest and make a playoff run. he doesn't sound too convinced they were going to go for it. Note the very last paragraph where the author senses what will happen. Lo and behold that is what happened.

Here is one from 3 days before the loss where Manning and the rest would not lobby to go for perfection.

Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell vague on playing time Sunday against Jets

“I'm kind of upset New Orleans lost,” Colts middle linebacker and defensive captain Gary Brackett said. “The locker room will be a little more crowded now, [with people] seeing what we're going to do. But I think it's a good problem to have.”

The Colts are one of three teams in NFL history to start a season 14-0. The others were Miami in 1972, when finished a 14-game regular-season unbeaten before winning three postseason games, and the 2007 New England Patriots, which finished 16-0 before losing the Super Bowl.

“When you're in that group, it's kind of cool,” Johnson said. “At the same time, they're not handing out Lombardi trophies for 14-0. We know it's a great goal, a great accomplishment, but at the same time, we have a lot bigger goals.”

Said Caldwell, “It's obviously an honor for our team to have an opportunity to kind of stand alone at this point. The fact of the matter is it's a task to maintain this position as well.

“I think our guys are certainly up to that challenge.”

Colts players, for their part, said while they would prefer playing all-out, such decisions are ultimately left to the coaches.

“Guys will do what coach asks them to do,” Colts cornerback Kelvin Hayden said. “If the coach feels like we need rest, that's fine. If now, just go out there and continue to do your job. You can say your two cents, but that's the head guy. It is what it is. His best interest is you and the team. If he thinks it's best for the team to rest and get ready for the playoffs, that's fine.

And while Colts players said the thought of an unbeaten regular-season is enticing, they also said maintaining an unbeaten record will mean little if it hurts their postseason chances.

“We're only concerned about the Indianapolis Colts, what we're doing and what we have to get down,” Colts DE Robert Mathis said. “If [an unbeaten season] is what it takes to get down to Miami (the site of the Super Bowl), then that's what it takes. If it takes being unbeaten, then that's what it takes. If not, then that's what it is.

“Everybody wants it. That's just the competitive spirit, but it's not first and foremost on our agenda. We're trying to finish the job.”

Brackett was asked this week if he might offer Caldwell input.

Not one of those articles states that the were going to pull their starters, unless of course you've invented a new English language. There's a lot of maybe and what-if. I told you find to me a statement from the Colts in which they concretely stated we're going to pull our starters. You can't because they never made such a proclamation. For someone who likes to use the word facts a lot you sure don't grasp the gravity of what one is.

Colt players knew it and painter saw more snaps leading up to the Jets game. Did the Colts players know at what point they would come out? chances no but they knew they would not likely play the entire game. This was discussed ahead of time right after the Jags game.
