I've got to leave for a while. Parting thought.

I sometimes get the feeling that the Jones haters really just hate wealthy successful people.

Jones is a self made multi-millionaire. He had his salad days.
Don't hate the man because he was talented/lucky enough to make a fortune.

You truly are clueless.

In case you haven't noticed, all the owners in the NFL are wealthy successful people. As are all the owners of any professional sports team.

It's just that most of them, after having success in the league didn't get their ego in overdrive and try to run the team themselves so they could get the credit and in doing so run their teams into the ground.

No...I want an owner who will hire good quality football people, then open his wallet, sit back, and let the experts do their jobs.

I just thank God Jerry didn't try to get any one of his 500 coaches (like Switzer, Gailey or Campo) in here in 1989 while he and Lacewell made the personnel decisions - because then our last Super Bowl win would've been in 1977.

Wow ..... thats a bunch of agenda driven speculation right there.

Fact ...... Jerry has been the GM since he bought the team.
Fact ...... Jimmy was not able to Win a Superbowl after he left Dallas.
Fact ......the Dallas Cowboys won a Superbowl after Jimmy left.
Fact ...... the Decline of health of the 90's super team is what has caused our downfall for the last 10 years .....

Sorry if some people cannot handle the truth.

;)

Fact.... Jerry didn't make most of the personnel decisions in the first five years when Jimmy was here.

Fact...The 1995 Super Bowl team looked relatively similar to Jimmy's SB teams from '92-'93. I'm just thankful we squeezed one more out before Jerry and his incompetence ruined the team.

Fact...while the team did age and have injuries...our personnel decisions from '94-02, led by Jerry and his personnel man Lacewell failed time after time drafting busts year after year which heavily contributed to such a dearth of talent that eventually led to three consecutive 5-11 season once most of Jimmy's players were gone.

Yeah, the truth hurts...deal with it.

You responded to zrin - that's what I was addressing (there was no mention of degree of control in his post). I'm not sure how I was supposed to know that there was an auxillary message to silverbear in your response to zrin. I'm not psychic, afterall.

But I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night. :D

NO other owner LOVES his team as much as Mr. Jones does--period!

1st owner to win 3 Super Bowls in a 4 year span.

Pulled off the biggest trade in NFL history. Hershal for 3 Super Bowls basically.

He is the envy of ALL of his NFL peers because of his business mind.

I just don't understand how ANY TRUE Cowboy fan can say one NEGATIVE thing about Mr. JONES! :star:

Someone explain it to me please............
A great owner would not hire someone that was not qualified to run his team. That is exactly what Jones did when he got rid of Johnson, and made himself in charge of all personnel decisions. He wasn't qualified to do the job, just look at his moves from 1994-2002.Also,Jimmy Johnson was the man behind the Herschel Walker trade.

The decline of the team was caused by poor drafting. You need to go back and look at the drafts by Jerry from 1994-2002.You are the clueless one.You know nothing about football.

I'm personally a Jones fan.

The man loves what he does and the Cowboys. Wants to win.

Outside of football, he does so many things for the city of Dallas and the community in general that people don't know about that it's sick. This is one of the greatest Dallas residents in the last 50 years.

As far as his management of the team - I'm afraid I can't fault him for playing Real Life Madden with the team. If I had his money and owned a football team, I assure you I would be doing the exact same thing.

Crown Royal, you have a great understanding of just how valuable Mr. Jones has been to the Cowboys, City of Dallas, Texas and Americas Team! :starspin

No I'm not clueless.

Most extremely wealthy people with the resources to purchase an NFL team, inherited thier wealth.

Few like Jones and Cuban are self-made.

You have sucked in this BS media driven theme that Jones is an idiot millionaire meddling in things, such as the operation of his own friggin team,
that he shouldn't be.

The media plays it up because it sells. Who could believe it, the rich guy is the bad guy. Ya lets blame him, that rich SOB.

It's so transparent. Can't you see how you've been "sucked in". (Thanks Bill.)
You have been indoctrinated in BS.

Here's the truth.

Most NFL owners care about winning. Sure they do, it'd be a real feather in their cap and certainly wouldn't hurt the bottom line.

But most of these guys are detached. Losing doesn't impact their life.

Jones' life is. He lives and breaths Cowboys football. Winning is everything.

So go ahead and say thats all well and good as long as he doesn't meddle too much and leaves it to the pros.

Fact is you can't have one without the other!
If you're passionate and care, you're going to be involved in decisions.

As Cowboy fans, were better off with the dedicated owner.

I love me some Jones, I just wish he would hire him a right hand man "GM", don't tell anyone he's here, and let that guy tell you who to hire as a staff, and let that guy/gal mix minds with the coach and tell you who to draft.

And if the guy sucks after a couple of years, hire another under-cover "GM".

Sounds reasonable.

So let me get this straight. You want the Cowboys run exactly how 95% of the leagues teams are currently run.

OK. Exactly how are we going to outperform those teams over the long haul?

May I propose an alternate plan?

Lets say we get ourselves an owner who lives, breaths and eats Cowboys football.
An owner who has the made the franchise his life.
Who from day one has been involved in running the team, involved in every decision.
An owner who has closely observed the people working for him.
Not just to make sure they're doing their job but to learn from them.
How they make the decisions they do. Why they make them.
What's worked, what's not worked.
What qualities make up a great HC, Coordinator, Positon Coach, Scout and of cousre, football player.

Ya that's it. I bet we'd do real well over the long haul with a guy like that.

All you Jerry lovers listen up I got a question.

If the Cowboys go 10 more years without a playoff win (Lord God please forbid) will you all start to see the pattern that has developed the past 10. What's the ceiling for you when does the blame start getting pointed at Jerry for you?

Just curious. How much bad to medeocre football from our Cows can yall take before yall think, hey ole Jethro might be the problem here?

I'll just say this in closing this post, I am egoless about my bashing of Jerry and the I'm right yall are wrong kind of trade off. If the Cowboys win a Superbowl in the NEAR future with Jerry doing what he does then I will start a thread and title it "I'M HERE FOR MY BASHING" and I will gladly do this.;)

I consider the Rooney family one of the other great Families of Football. They went nearly 30 years without a title.

10 years without a playoff win sucks. I mean it really really sucks.

Bottom line is that's not good enough and the buck stops with Jerry.

He has made mistakes no doubt.

I could easily explain away this 10 year drought.

The first 4 years were spent in cap hell with a declining base from the former dynasty.
Then next two years were spent with a supar head coach. (Jerry's hire).

The last four years the club has been ascending. Two playoff appearances, could have easily been three.

I think the largest problem we've had IS subpar QB PLAY for almost the whole 10 years. (Jerry's fault)

So there has been some extenuating circumstances, but I WILL HAVE A BIG PROBLEM WITH JERRY IF WE DON'T GET A PLAYOFF WIN SOON.

10 MORE YEARS. YOU KIDDING ME. I'D KILL HIM MYSELF

People say to me, "BBgun, why are you so negative?"

LOOK AROUND YOU. WE'VE BEEN BAD OR MEDIOCRE FOR A LONG LONG TIME.

My "sin" is that I've, you know, noticed this and dared to comment on the devastation. Everyone else is trying to gaslight me into thinking things are just peachy, or to "trust in Jerry." Um, no thanks.

Well if you want to really break it down all the way to 3 reasons we've not seen the SB, here goes.

1. No Quarterback
2. Bad offensive line
3. No pass rush.

Yes...you are clueless for suggesting people hate Jones because he's wealthy and successful. That is the most ludicrous thing I've read on here...and that's saying alot.

And no, I haven't been sucked in by anything. I've seen for myself how Jerry and his ego refused to bring in a quality GM or HC's for years after Jimmy left and I saw firsthand how his horrible decisions greatly contributed to the decline of the team.

It didn't take the media to point that out.

Sorry..but you are way off base.
