Looks like it's more or less official that D-Will is coming to town. I like how the Mavs have recovered here. I'm not mad about losing Jordan since I never wanted him here. But clearly he left the Mavs in a spot. Pachulia is a very solid big man, has always put up good rebounding numbers and is a better passer than the black hole Jordan could ever dream about. The big problem is that he will definitely need another center to platoon with as he cannot play as many minutes as Jordan could.

I feel like the Mavs are now in the same position they would have been with Jordan... fighting for the chance to get flushed down the toilet in the first round by the Spurs or Warriors. If that's what's going to happen, I would rather watch a washed up D-Will, ZaZa and Dirk and co. do it then some ridiculous plan to turn the hapless Jordan into a phony Wilt Chamberlain, bricked free throws and all.

That's perfect for Dallas. Keep his rights 2 seasons but don't really chip away at max cap space for next year.

DWill
Wes
CP
Dirk
Zaza

Harris
JJB
Jefferson
CharlieV

is middle of the pack.

Unfortunately middle of the pack in the West is about a 10th seed... but at least it is watchable.

Mark and the FO have more work to do.

Regardless I want the high pick.

Just takes an RG3 and Dan Snyder to coop a ton of picks.

Loser thinking never prospers.

If you get to week 15 or 16 and have sucked all along of course losing one or two more games makes sense.
Planning to do that for an entire year is beyond stupid and has never worked for anyone.

The Colts were able to walk away from a franchise QB who has since been League MVP and into a young stud but they dismantled that team and right now look to be a good QB and some ballast 3 years later. By the time they build the team up they'll get to make Luck the highest paid QB in the league.

Amare signs with the Heat... They're really going for it...

Maybe we see a Heat vs Cavs ECF??

Heat are no where near that good. An outside shot at home court but as a 4 seed.
Bulls, Bucks, Hawks, Wizards and Cavs probably all better.
Smart of them to compete tho, makes them a better look for free agents next year which is probably their plan.

Unless dirk suddenly finds a fountain of youth I can't see the Mavs any better then 9th in the west even if Williams returns to form. Would prefer if they just rebuilt at this point it's been a good run the past 15 years

Yea 9th or 10th is about right at this point. But things change. Guys get hurt, trades get made.

The Mavs have been in rebuild mode since 2011.
They've just been able to remain competitive while attempting to do so.

Many fans believe you tear it all down and start over but those fans are largely goofy.
Under the current CBA that is simply a terrible practice.
See the Sixers and others as example.
Even if you are fortunate enough to ping pong your way to a franchise player it takes years to get that guy playoff ready, much less Finals ready.
By then he's a free agent and looking to places where he can win rings.

EVERYONE has to play free agency even if it is just to keep your own guys. What's been proven is free agents want to see blue prints for a winning situation above all else.

Mavs want to remain competitive and sell themselves to free agents again next off-season.
It's a frustrating process if you keep coming up short but no worse than losing 60 games only to draft rotational players and slow developers.

Its only been two years... I'm not saying what will be... I'm just saying... its only been two years... so thats not much of an example.

Nobody should tank an entire year in the NFL purposely.

Nba though..

Yea, if I was an NBA owner, I would trade any and all assets not on rookie deals if I didn't have a team that could compete for a conference championship. So while I wouldn't "tank," I wouldn't try very hard to win until I at least had a young core of players.

Obviously there would be exceptions, like when you have an Anthony Davis, but in his earlier years, I would have gutted the rest of the team for first round picks, as opposed to dealing picks for average players like Jrue Holliday

Deron Williams should help the Mavs, if he can stay healthy. I think he was an idiot for going to NJ in the first place.......and then he played like an injured scrub during his tenure there. Maybe being a Mav will reignite his career. BTW, I hope he is still the same Williams who was pretty much a complete suck fest for the Nets.......speaking as a Spurs fan of course.

yea, but he didn't have to resign, I believe he was traded midseason before becoming a free agent

Correct... he didn't turn down the 100 million 5 year deal after being there... but he got traded to them.... and re signing with a team that has the option to give you more money than anyone isn't an idiot move... especially when they put talent around you..... he was supposed to be a leader... and flat out... he wasn't...

I think had he gone to Dallas, he could have made more money. Had he signed a 4 year deal, with an opt out after 3, he could have signed a max deal in 2014 (Dallas would have his bird rights), but now it will be hard getting anyone to commit like that to him.

He would have made the same if he would have signed for 4 with an opt 3 with the Nets... but he didn't because the Nets could offer an extra year.... with a raise... making a 75mil contract, a 100mil contract...
And now that we've seen how he's played (which actually started going down hill at the very end in Utah imo).... he was wise to opt for that extra year..

Besides, my statement was only to reinforce that he got traded to bk... not just got up and went there... he was free the next year yes, but bk had talent, a willing owner, could offer him an extra year...etc.... he found out later that he didn't like the pressure, and didn't like bk life :((but I understand why).

Edit: he was in transition between BK & NJ... tough way to work...

Williams announced his decision on his Twitter account Tuesday night, opting to stay with the Nets rather than sign with the Dallas Mavericks. He also directly informed the Nets that he was accepting the team's five-year, $100 million offer, league sources said. Under NBA rules, the Nets could offer Williams a fifth season worth about $25 million while the Mavericks' offer was limited to four years.
