Saw Mavs draft nerd suggest a trade with BOS of:

Hayward
14

For

18, 32
Delon Wright
THJ

My gut said Mavs homer trade but a lot of folks in the twitter thread seemed to like it for BOS.
Is BOS just set on moving Hayward because of salary/health??
If they do move him, it will be asset management more that cost. Browns extension kicks in this year, so they are a tax team if they keep Hayward or trade him. Unless they trade him without taking salary which isnt happening.

That makes sense.
Mavs perspective is easy as the team has rumored to be chasing a 3rd star by taking on bad money and want to also move into the lottery.
Also it's a 1 year deal so timeline fits DAL pretty well.
THJ is interesting because he shot 40% from 3 last year at high volume. He was a borderline all-star the first half the season. Then tailed off badly.
Hayward might be a better fit in Dallas for sure but not sure what BOS would even be looking for.
The have a ton of picks and are a very deep team.
Seems they gotta determine specific roster needs and meet that.

Boston's biggest needs are an upgrade at the 5, and a backup point. A bench scorer wouldnt hurt either. They play positionless for the most part, so if they move Gordon, that might not necessarily be what they take back. However, Turner's name has came up in C's for a while now. With sources linking Indy having with Hayward, a package revolving around Turner becomes the best guess.

Nothing has been leaked on Bostons end about Hayward at this point. Though if any call has been made from Indy, I dont see Ainge not looking to see what he can get elsewhere if they are interested in dealing him

Turner is actually a local kid. My sister taught at his HS while he was there.
Indy is another interesting team to watch.
5 is evolving so fast nowadays.
Dwight Powell is a really good 5 option for a position-less team because he is an elite rim runner.
But he is so bad on the boards lol.

Thats always an issue with that style of ball. Theis offers alot of utility because he is a good interior and perimeter defender and a very good switch defender while be able to hit a jumper. But he is a poor rebounder and sometimes comically bad finishing at the rim. I think they would like him more as a first big off the bench at 4 and 5. Its hard to play that style of ball and keep a guy on the court that can consistently win on the glass

The thinking is long term Williams could be their guy. The hope is he can be a smaller Capella with a surprisingly good passing touch. And he looked really good at times this year. But he isnt a 25-30 minute a game guy yet. If they dont make a move for a big, he will probably see an uptick in minutes approaching 20 min per game

And for the first time *ever* The Knicks are signalling that they are willing to take on bad contracts for draft picks.

Typically, in the past, NY would take on bad contracts *and give up* draft picks. The once they realized how dumb that was, they decided that they would avoid bad contracts because all free agents want to go play for the Knicks...

Suffice to say, we now are willing to take on bad deals for draft capital and I say about time

Call Philly, we can absorb Hortford *before* the draft just by dealing

PHI 76ers
-Taj Gibson (million dollar buy out)
-Elfrid Payton (million dollar buy out)
-Wayne Ellington (million dollar buy out)
-Theo Pinson

New York Knicks
-Al Hortford
-Mike Scott
-21st pick 2020 draft
-34th pick 2020 draft

This would save Philly $29,505,350 after the buy outs and drop them below the luxury tax and leave them about $10 million over still with Harris contract and leave the Knicks

NY could in theory take on Harris and Hortford...depending on if Bobby Portis' contract is trade able given that there is a team option for 2021, but I assume they would want to keep Harris unless they could get Gallinari and if so, a sign and trade could probably be worked out between a team that wants Harris or possibly with NY who again, *may* still be able to participate as a third team

There has been some chatter that Okongwu could be a trade up target for Boston. Mixed on that. Much better overall prospect than Williams was. I think Okongwu could be a hybrid of Adebayo and Capella. However, I also think Williams has the ability to develop into a good starting 5 and some of the PG's in this draft would be very good future peices.

IMO you do this if you are sold Okongwu is Adebayo+

IMO they should have to give up one of Milton, Thybulle or Zhaire Smith to shed that contract along with the picks. Its that bad

NY has been awful in drafts. And in developing talent.
This plan only works if they get far better in those areas.

Forcing Horford to close his career on an awful NYK team would be cruel and unusual punishment.
I think the Sixers could get a better deal for Horford than that.
Yes the deal his contract is bad but he is a usable vet big. Should be no reason to tip that heavy to offload him.

Pretty sure the Mavs would take Tobias Harris and Thybulle.
And that would remove the need for fire-sales.
Zhaire Smith(local kid then Tech) is my guy but he has no real value right now across the league because of injuries/illness he's just never got going.

Sixers have a lot of ammo but gotta decide what they want a re-made roster to look like.
Is Morey still gonna money ball this thing? 3's and layups every play? Cause if so Ben Simmons is gone, gone, gone.
Sixers are a bit like BOS with Kyrie.
Too much talent with too little cohesion.

O'Connell is saying Celtics are looking to package their picks to move up in the lottery, but they haven't gotten much interest. Kind of interesting considering this is considered a deep draft by weak at the the top. Maybe top 10 teams are just locked in on guys

Reports say Mavs wanna move up too but for greater trade ammo on a 3rd star.
They also wanna package Delon Wright and pick 32.

Wouldn't be the first time Mavs and Celts have been targeting same guys so may well be a team wants a lotto pick as part of package for a "star".
Beal? Giannis(we can dream)? Jrue Holiday?

Jrue is interesting for you guys because he still defends well and his shooting has been up. Injuries though

Yea. he's a tremendous scheme fit in Dallas because he's an elite defender without stopping the offense down.
Injuries could doom the entire team though. Lots of guys with injuries.

  • Nov. 18: 2020 NBA Draft
  • Nov. 20: Start of free agency
  • Dec. 1: Start date to begin training camps for 2020-21 season
  • Dec. 22: Opening night for 2020-21 season
Q: When does the 2020-21 season begin and end?
Dec. 22 is the start date. The end of the 2020-21 season will be released at a future date.

Q: How many games will each team play in 2020-21?
Each team will play 72 games, which is 10 games fewer than in a typical, 82-game NBA season.

Q: When will free agency open for the 2020-21 season?
Negotiations with free agents will be allowed to begin at 6 p.m. ET on Nov. 20, with signings permitted starting at 12:01 p.m. ET on Nov. 22. That is a quicker window than usual for free agency in the NBA, which typically has about a week spanning the start of talks and the beginning of signings.

Q: When is the 2020 NBA Draft?
The 2020 NBA Draft is being held on Nov. 18 (7 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Q: How is the salary cap affected for 2020-21?
The salary cap and tax level will remain unchanged. The cap was $109.14 million this past season, with the tax level at $132,627,000. In subsequent seasons of the CBA, the salary cap and tax level will increase by a minimum of 3% and a maximum of 10% over the prior season. Teams’ tax payments will be reduced in proportion to any basketball-related income decreases.

Q: How will the 2020-21 season affect baskeball-related income (BRI)?
A new system will be used to ensure the parties’ agreed-upon split of basketball-related income (BRI). In the event player compensation were to exceed the players’ designated share in any season, necessary salary reductions beyond the standard 10% escrow would be spread across that season and potentially the following two seasons, subject to a maximum salary reduction in any season of 20%.

Q: Will fans be in attendance for games in 2020-21? Where will games be played in 2020-21?
Details on team-by-team game schedules and fan attendance for 2020-21 will be released at a future date.

Never thought Russ was a good fit with them. Not really sure he is good fit with anyone. His best fit is probably with franchise that needs a guy to chuck up 30-35 shots a game to get fans to buy merchandise

Russ is a really inefficient shooter which is a huge issue but he does offer teams some crazy athleticism and rebounding at the position.
That salary though... whewwwwww.
