So why are the draft picks so vital to success ?

BTW- decent depth on the DL, WR, and QB too.
Because they are eager to buy into a team philosophy, whereas Free Agents often come in with a pre-conceived opinion of their worth and often do not buy into what the team is doing because they've had success in other systems and think the system should be changed to fit what they've already accomplished.

I disagree on the depth at those spots. LB I think has some good depth.

Depth across the board is pretty even for both Washington and Dallas. Washington has its strong and weak points, Dallas has its. Difference is, some people have such homer colored shades that they fail to realize the faults on there own team. Who steps up for Big D if Newman goes down? If Roy goes down? If ANYONE on the offensive line goes down? Julius Jones would be third string in Washington. The only place where depth exists is the linebackers. Other than that every other spot on the team has next to nothing for backups.
I'm not one of those people. I give credit where it is due and criticize when it is due.

Love the Julius as 3rd string crack. Proves you do fit the part in bold.

I don't know what to think of our game last night, I really don't. The supposed strongest aspect of our team was arguably our worst. We couldn't run the ball to save our life, and our offensive line got ZERO push. Jon Jansen looked like he should have been player with the third stringers.

Jason Campbell looked decent, but definatly not what I was hoping. He missed several simple passes, but then he would come back and hit some perfectly thrown balls (Randle El out pattern, Moss deep ball)... Still don't know what to think of him. I think we need to get samuels back in the lineup before I make a judgement. His blindsind was getting pressured all night, and that will mess with any QB.

Our defense looked a lot better IMO. London Fletcher seems like he will be a great pickup for us. We did give up a lot of 3rd and longs, but im not to worried about it. Most times in that 3rd down situation, GW will throw those exotic blitz packages at you, so hopefully that will be fixed during the regular. Our young defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery played amazing. He made several plays in the backfield to blow some plays up. Still a little worried about our pass rush. Looks like it will be another year of sending 7 and 8 blitzing.

All in all, was impressed by the defense, definatly under impressed with the offense. Hopefully the offensive line will pick up there play (which is expected with the absence of samuels, and our previous plaY). I think that if our oline can pick up there play, and finally get a rushing game going, it will make campbell look better, and I think we should have a decent team.

One fan can hope :p:

Good post, but one question about the bold part. Did you mean last night instead of last year? I hope so because it would make more sense to me since Fletcher wasn't on the Skins last year.

Again, good post.

Okay, so you did mean last night.

I can see that better.

How'd you like Landry? Great pick IMO. I agree on Fletcher being a good addition BTW.

I think this is way off base...I live in DC....the Skins have talent...lot's of it.

Their defensive secondary is probably the best in the division if they stay healthy. London Fletcher is solid...Rocky McIntosh is the second coming of Dexter Coakley.

I thought Campbell showed that when he has time that he can burn you. Which means teams might play them a little scared to protect against the deep ball..which will open up the running game

Remember how we carved up the saints last year in pre-season...who would have ever thought that they took a knee in Texas staduim last year to avoid hanging 50 on us.

Let's just get through the 1st half of our schedule, which inlcludes the Pats and the bears before we decide we are locks in the NFC

I have to admit, I missed the one blitz where he destroyed Collins (still havent seen it yet)... Figures I turn away right as it happens and I only see the replay of him standing over collins. Havent really seen much of him yet, so I cant really judge, but I do think he will be a great player none the less

Brunell as a back up is alone pretty decent depth, add in Collins who knows (or should) the offense pretty well. WR for the needs of the offens emakes sense, they all fit the system, DL is better than most would like to admit, there is some tenure, and some young guys who are decent but still raw.

Pretty sure he meant last night.

On a side note, I like your point about FAs or players traded for, but that is across the board in today's NFL. T.O., Moss, Portis, Glenn, Davis, Fletcher, etc.

I live in DC too, and I just don't see it. They have a good defensive secondary if you just look at them on paper, but Rogers up to this point is bad, and Landry hasn't done anything. Taylor repeatedly gives up long TDs, and Smoot is coming off his worst seasons as a pro. Your consistent factor is Springs, who's always been pretty good, but I hear he's having problems with the organization and how they treat him. Plus, he tends to have injury issues as he's getting up there in age.

Fletcher is solid, but McIntosh? Come on. He's done nothing to be compared to Coakley who's made the probowl a few times.

Campbell right now reminds me of QC. He'll hit the big throw once in a while, even have some good solid games. But, he'll be inconsistent and overthrow open receivers, or throw the ball into the dirt. His mechanics also seem pretty bad, particularly when throwing the ball. He seems to consistently wind up on his throws.

I hate to say it because i don't want to bash anyone, but i've seen a lot of threads in the last couple days proclaiming how bad certain teams will be based on their first PS game, and that's just plain dumb. I can't wait for the next 3 weeks to pass.

I apologize for the typos, I need new batteries for the keyboard.

Based on the last 2 years it seems the Commanders would split with the Cowboys, or sweep?

Sorry you don't understand the whole, 'ANY GIVEN SUNDAY' thing.

Oh, Travis Henry ? And the Bills let him go why ? Now the Titans ?

Don't get me wrong, I like him as a player, but he is injury prone.

It doesn't discount the fact that the Titans didn not have to rely on a rookie RB. And I didn't ask if you liked him or not.

Oh I understand 'any given Sunday', it's the mantra of a loser.

Denver thought pretty highly of Henry - and they let Portis go - guess he sucks too then?

The miracles have run out against the Cowboys - count on that.

If the Skins win more than 5 games I will be amazed.

That teams sucks.

Campbell is terrible.

Coaching is awful.

Commanders fans thinking they are a playoff contender after that performance: utterly priceless.

You may live in DC but you don't see very well. I don't know what you're looking at. Foreskins don't have the talent you think they do.. Not even close!!

Guys we know nothing about our team or anyone else at this point and until sometime in september we wont know whos going to do what.

Pre-season is a practice nothing more. You find out next to nothing about your team.

Last year preseason. Raiders 4-0 Colts 0-4.

Colts superbowl Champ..... Raiders win Jemarcus Russell

Ahh, while watching preseason games, I really don't think real football fans put too much stock into records or wins and loses. I think its how well they play and the mistakes they make. Showing the Raiders and Colts preseason record means nothing. For example, we won but we played well and looked pretty good while winning. The Foreskins won but looked absolutely terrible while doing so.. It's how you play in preseason, not your record...
