When you are a fan of a Dallas area pro sports team just
expect that most of the time the season will end on a bad note.

The past is but a lesson, the present another chance to reduce regrets in the future.

If a young person were to ask me "what has been life's greatest lesson and what's the one thing you would change"? I would answer "I spent so much time in the past thinking about the future that I missed a lot of the present, which became the past. The one thing I would change would be to remove "if only" from my mental vocabulary because that phrase robs one of the present".

That old quip "if I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself" is even truer for the memory. So many missed opportunities back in the present to create memories for the future, which is now the past.

The other thing I would tell them that the saying "it's never too late" is incorrect. For some things, it is too late. Which makes the present so much more important. The present should be about reducing the regrets of the past when it's not too late.

I am dropping mine off to get their teeth cleaned tomorrow so I will put that unconditional love to the test. They will both go out of their way to make sure I know they are ignoring me.
And there I though I was the only idiot that had their dogs teeth cleaned. Now I don't feel so bad.

I'm much more willing to spend more money on something up front rather than going through multiple cheaper options. I spent $200 on my last pair of dress shoes, but they have lasted me 5 years. The $30 Walmart ones lasted 5-6 months.

When i was a boy and had penny Loafers, I had them resoled. There was a time my dad bought used shoes that had been repaired. Hard to even grasp that now.

I agree, but there are some things I never spend more on because no matter what they don't last for me... Sunglasses for one. I'm pretty hard on them, so it's pointless buying expensive ones as the cheap ones last just as long. As long as they have the UV protection, it's good.

Yeah, same thing for me. Watches, as well. Basic tools, too. I'll go to Harbor Freight for one time use sort of things. Their hand tools also have a lifetime warranty.

When I was younger, I used to be this guy...
conceptual-image-smiling-businessman-flying-600w-53739436.jpg

Then when bad things happened, I felt like this guy....https://encrypted-tbn0.***NOT-ALLOWED***/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcTCoVsmUrcgd7anNR0T_TaPSyxWb7YB4yF9Qz4lc4BX65hLkQiV&usqp=CAU

So now as I am older, and more wiser and smarter and know how to emotionally control my self, I live my life like this guy.....

I have not read the thread, so someone may have posted this observation already:

A significant number of people (not every individual in the world but waaaaay more than one) will argue (not debate but bicker) how their viewpoint is factual (despite evidence to the contrary) and that their position should not be questioned since it is only their opinion. And 'as everyone is supposed to know', opinions are neither 'right nor wrong'.

There are many lessons I have learned along the road to my mid-fifties. They have taught me what is both good and bad about us humans who inhabit this planet. I cannot discuss some of the inherit conclusions because of site rules :muttley: but that particular lesson has made the most impact upon my worldview.

Honestly, it took awhile for the lesson to hit home. I owe CowboysZone in large part for helping hammer the lesson through my hardheaded skull. Regrettably THAT effort was accomplished with an industrial grade jackhammer. Thanks CowboysZone. :starspin:
