The market rate? We blew the market out of the water. And the market shouldnt have even been at that bar to begin with.

You're cool with aollcating 8%+ of our CAP to a guy good for 20% of one win over an average player at his position over an entire season? I agree with you, that is an absolute tragedy.

At least he's a good guy that never gets in trouble and helps out.... oh wait nevermind.

I'm all for analytics, but if Zeke's WAR is negative, they clearly haven't perfected the formula yet for football. That's a joke.

Technically, $13m is not guaranteed for this and next season... rather, $3.8m is guaranteed... not that it actually matters.

Yet you have no problem paying Dak $35 million a year, strange how this works, top 2 RB bad to pay, tier 3, 15 - 17 QB pay him top $$$, why is that????

Sure, but the 9 Million for 2020 was a complete lock to be exercised, guaranteeing that year was a distinction without a difference.

I would agree if Zeke weren't so ineffecient in just about every manner. Which wasnt all Zeke's fault.

When you use a bellcow back they wear down, just like Zeke does, and they become less effective. If you dont use them properly, like Linehan, they become less effective. If you make a player do stuff that isnt within his strengths, such as receiving, they become less effective. If you call incorrect plays at the incorrect times, like Linehan, they become less effective.

Should Zeke be better this year? Yes unless Moore is somehow more incompetent than Linehan. But that's the beauty of RBs you don't invest market shattering money into them, you invest in their coaches, their playcallers, and their surrounding talent and that's what drives 90% of a RBs effectiveness.

Fascinating to read the details of one of the worst contracts in Cowboys history and to be able to say “I was 40 years old” in 20 years when it still rings true is a sad thought.

Yes, but we could have got out from under him or traded him with no CAP ramifications so we really did fully guarantee him for four additional years. Wow.

In 5 years we can look back at this post and tell you how wrong you were, again. :muttley:

That's true for the above average guys like Doug Martin you posted before. But Zeke is an elite back and there are plenty like Ladanian Tomlinson or AD who maintained that level into their late 20's. There are also guys like Curtin Martin that weren't elite but were top rushers into their 30's.

Longevity is the real issue with this contract but its not a lock that Zeke will fall off like a Doug Martin type.

Does Joseph Randle make parole before that? Or is the plan to drop another 1st round pick on a Felix Jones?

What I posted has nothing to do with longevity. That was related to last year... when Zeke was 23. It was true for whichever guys you posted, but it's also true for Zeke.

But RB longevity also has nothing to do with age, it's all about touches and style of play.

5 years - $63 million guaranteed. 28 years old. Nothing guaranteed after 5 years. They can keep paying him $14 million per year after 5 years (a bargain if he is still a top RB). And they can cut him after 5 years at no impact to the cap. This is a brilliant deal for both sides. Congrats to us Cowboys fans!!!

How much did Zeek get upfront? How much is the signing bonus?

Yeah, it was awful when Zeke was so worn down last year that he lead the NFL in rushing by 100 yards.

The best RB in football is averaging $12.6 million per year over the next 5 years. It's the perfect deal for both sides. Keeps our young core together for the next 5 years.

The AAV doesn’t matter.
