Guards while coveted are the 1T of the offense. Most teams only wish for 2 of the 3 interior guys on the line to be "good" why because most teams do not "luck" into what Dallas has. There are street FA that could fill in without giving up a premium draft pick4

that makes no sense......he started 35 games for us.....he has value and we want to get it if we trade him....

Martin and Collins will not be cheap to extend

He has value to Dallas as back up only, unfortunately if he decides to sit he has no value, when he walks his value will be probably be much lower than anything out there now but two years from now, his value to another team is whatever another team is willing to give. I think he is a good player, I think it sucks he is in the position he is Dallas has very little leverage, Leary has most of it.

blah, blah ,blah.......wasting money is wasting money

all those guys can be replaced by rookies

lol at calling Thornton a deal........hasn't played a down....TSmith averages 12m and OScan is getting 5m for a slot CB.......not sure how that helps your point

we could have a decent QB2 for the 6m I saved with those 3 non actives

Gachkar and Morris will be game day active and will see playing time in a rotation or as key depth. They also happen to be the most injury prone positions in the league. Leary is a starting quality OG who would start on 90% of teams in the NFL.

Smith is signed through 2024 at that rate. This is why I say you have no clue about inflation as you insist on yesteryears valuations instead of with vision towards the future.

Gachkar runs a 4.5 with great agility scores. He outplayed Wilson and Hitchens two young guys last year when given opportunity. He can chase sideline to sideline against the short passing game better than anyone on the roster not named Sean Lee. Speed in the middle of the field is a huge need and not something we should just throwaway.

Thornton is a starting quality league proven interior DL. $3m AAV is a pittance particularly moving forward.

What decent QB can you get for $6m? This isn't the 1990s.

Other than rookies on cost controlled contracts there is nary a QB that gets that much particularly out of UFA. Wishful thinking doesn't set the market.

you are 100% wrong.......Leary has no leverage at all.......he plays for DAL or he gets nothing and DAL keeps his rights....no one cares if he wants a new contract, he doesn't have the service time

tell that to NE.......you can draft QBs every year.......it isn't like they don't hold value

Um, Brady missed 15 games in 2008, hasn't missed a start since. You really have no clue what their backups can do. Cassell obviously never repeated the success he had his one year in NE. Garrapalo is an unknown.

Name 1 team that has a long term backup?

One of the dumbest things I have seen. By it's nature you either have an old vet, a guy that has been around a few years but hasn't had great success or a project.

If we open the season with KMoore as our QB2 that is an epic fail and Gachkar and McFadden can run all the 40s you want

So again what QB in UFA could we get for $6m?

We also drafted a QB in the 4th as well for all your NE claims. They have drafted a total of 1 more QB than us in the last decade.

QB is a scarce resource that are hard to develop. If most teams 'fail' then what difference does it make in a competitive league? Waving your hands at the front runner is fun I guess.

Yeah most aren't going to pay for elite guard talent.

Except the Saints who broke the bank for Evans a few years back.

But on the flip side they did NOT pay for Carl Nicks and Leary isn't prime Carl Nicks.

But I would say he's a top 20 guard in this league and the saints are an offensive oriented team.

Sorry for the back and forth thinking... Just a long winded way of saying "who knows".

I already did, NE. But so does PHI, WAS and NYG

Cousins is starting and their other one busted pretty hard. We have a starter that is better than both of them.

Other than Philly being regarded as have a poor offseason, Chase Daniels makes more than what you are willing to pay particularly when you look at what it costs if he actually plays with his incentives. But dat 79 career passer rating.

Nassib has proved just as much as our rookie in his 5 NFL passes. He was picked at the end of the third so it's not all that different of Dak's end of 4th status.

So what opportunities did we miss on? Trade the farm for Lynch? Overpay for Fitzpatrick? Reach for some other prospect? Wishful thinking is not an argument of opportunity.

NE is a lot like us....we both beat the curve in regard to our starting QB and haven't had to use a high pick yet to replace them. No one knows what they have in Garoppolo and basically it is going to be the situation you don't want to be in for them at the end of 2017. They are going to have to decide whether to commit huge money to a guy that has only played a few games for them, while they still have Brady who says he sees no reason he can't play for many more years. No team can afford to pay huge deals to QB's so they are going to have to make a choice. The likelihood is that Garoppolo will be gone and they will have to spend a high pick to find another QB. The only thing that you can say about NE"s QB situation is that they have been luckier than we have in regard to injuries.

Don't want to let him go unless it's for something we really need. If the Saints send us a quality pass rusher or their #2 in next year's draft, Leary is all theirs. Otherwise I'd rather have him here for depth.

The Eagles have two vets that haven't proven to be winners and a rookie who comes from a lower division of football and between them are costing close to 25m in cap space this year. Only one of them will play. Do you honestly think that is the best allocation of funds in a sal cap era? And the fact is, none of them is proven to be as good as our starter. Wentz has proven no more than Prescott. You realize in 6 years Chase Daniel has thrown for 1 TD? How has he proved to be any better than Kellen Moore?

The Giants have Eli and Ryan Nassib....who basically won't have played in a meaningful game in his 4 years in NY, was a 4th round pick(just like Prescott) and will be a free agent next year. So basically, their backup QB situation is no different than ours.

The Skins got lucky with Cousins, considering their first choice bombed but he has only had one good year. Their backup is Colt McCoy...7 and 18 as a starter in 6 years. How is that any better than what we have? Heck, we have cut guys with better resumes.

There is a lot to be said for having a starting level backup. How often do your OL play every game in a year, and with Leary as insurance you really aren't losing much if Martin or Collins go down. Yes, he is not as good as either, but he is very solid.

Is he really a starting level backup with that attitude? I don't trust a guard playing who's saying he wants to be traded. I get why he would want to be traded but I think it's unprofessional to go out and publicly say that. Give me backup guards who I know will continue to train hard and play hard and want to be on the team.

He is an UDFA so we get no picks if he decides to retire from football. If he decides to sit out the season, he won't cost us anything since
he is basically a paycheck player. If he doesn't show up, he gets no money. I'm not sure of the rules but, if he sits out this whole year, he
gets no service credit and may be restricted to Dallas next year as well. My guess, he shows up at the start of the season to get his money
and service credit for the year so that he can hit FA next year.
